Going on now for 8th year! I hope it has helped you as it helped me keeping my backlogs in check while enjoying my games.

Not every month someone will be finishing a lot, as there are months where a person just can't finish anything. Then you got that streak going in another month.

Also, if you plan to replay the game, it is fine but don't repeat it at a later month as first completion is what counts.

Another thing is the criteria of what is considered completed in unclear games such as team based multiplayer games; I would say set a target for that. E.g. I considered Overwatch completed when I reached level 100. Or when I finished story mode (which was a long movie sequence) in Guilty Gear Xrd Revelator. You decide what you consider is completed as long as it is reasonable to a certain extend and correlate-able to a single player experience.

DLC completed at a separate time from the main game and has enough content (+1 hour) can be counted as a separate completion.
Console completions can be accepted as long as the main focus is still PC overall.

Completed Games:
770-Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns Expansion
771-Crisis Core - Final Fantasy VII - Reunion
772-Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty Expansion
773-Red Dead Redemption 2
774-Turok
775-The Invincible
776-Sonic Superstars

So December I had an annual leave and no traveling for various IRL reasons. With that said I had a good completion rate in that month:

770-Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns Expansion: Played the short story associated with the expansion and tested some of the new characters. A weak expansion and an uninspiring story associated with it.

771-Crisis Core - Final Fantasy VII - Reunion: I started this during the PSP days but due to loading, FPS and PSP controller, was just painful to play. Reunion Remaster was amazing and managed to make the game bearable. Had ton's of fun with it on SteamDeck OLED.

772-Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty Expansion: Loved this expansion. As usual CDProjekt RED expansions are always top tier. I played it for +30 hours. It was always fun. Highly recommended if you liked Cyberpunk.

773-Red Dead Redemption 2: I started this long ago and did most of the side stuff like hunting and fishing and since then the game was on my machine untouched for one reason or another. Finally decided to push it forward and all I can say is story telling to the max. I believe this game is a classic and hopefully withstand the test of time.

774-Turok: Always wanted to play this since N64 time. Since I never owned a N64, I finally got the chance to play it. It held well still. Enjoyable retro ride.

775-The Invincible: A walking simulator with a nice story and atmosphere. It has choices too. I liked it. Though I slightly expected more and it stutters hard.

776-Sonic Superstars: I always enjoy the sonic classic gameplay and forms. This while not hitting the spot perfectly, is a solid entry and worth playing if you are a sonic fan.

See you all in 2025. I plan to beat my 2024 completions.

Hogwarts Legacy - Decent game. Lots of atmosphere though the by-the-numbers gameplay didn't always fit the setting. In particular I'm sure Mr. Potter didn't leave a body count to rival mine.
Golden Lap - Shallow F1 management game.
Endling Extinction is Forever - Raising fox cubs.
Dredge - Free with Prime and I bought both DLC. Quite a simple game but atmospheric and enjoyable.
Kena Bridge of Spirits - Pretty standard action game but a really great art style.

Five then to round off a reasonable year. I feel maybe a higher percentage of duds this year but enough good games that I still have confidence that PC gaming is still in a pretty healthy place.

With more free time I smashed through games in December, and they were not all short. Stalker 2 took me near 50 hrs and Indy over 20. Plus I was still playing a fair bit of BLOPS 6. Total of 66 finished is my most game completions ever in a calendar year, since I started tracking back in 2003, but overall not the most hours played. Game wise 2024 was okay but not as strong as 2023 imo due to a few disappointments.

I finished two games in December, being Half-Life 2: Entropy Zero 2 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.

Spent a lot of time in December playing Assetto Corsa Competizione, Age of Mythology: Retold, Company of Heroes 3, some Helldivers 2, and World of Tanks. Also put some time into Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and a few other games, but that was small change.

Overall, I finished 28 games in 2024. That's nearing my personal record, despite having spent a lot of time on older games. For instance, Assetto Corsa Competizione is my most-played Steam game, nothing else came close. Most finishes this year were shorter games (<20 hours). I'm proud that I've scratched a few really old games off the bucket list, including Unreal 2 (2003), Mass Effect 3 (2012), Metro Last Light (2014), and Rise of the Tomb Raider (2016).

The absolute best game for me was Helldivers 2, and I'm really pleased how Outcast: A New Beginning was good enough to be a reasonable ending to a 25-year-long wait for a sequel.

Beating a personal record wasn't a target - it hasn't been for years - but I do find that this thread motivates me to see at least one game through to credits every month. That motivates me to start new games I'd otherwise put off entirely. It also motivates me to play smaller, lesser-known games I'd otherwise not take notice of at all.

For 2025, I hope the forum makes it through the year, as I don't think I'll ever make the jump to Discord. There are a lot of single player games I still want to play, and I hope to be able to list stuff like Bioshock Infinite, Deliver Us Mars, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Breathedge, Lego Star Wars Skywalker Saga (co-op with my son), Crackdown 3, Far Cry 6, Assassin's Creed Syndicate and Valhalla, Outer Worlds, Dying Light and a bunch more. And who knows, maybe I'll play some newer releases as well. XD

3 for me.

Mouthwashing: A unique story told in a unique way. It was okay. 6/10

Sir Whoopass: Thought it would be more fun but somehow managed to be tedious. 5/10

Bulwark: Falconeer Chronicles - A building game of sorts. Did 98% of what could be done. Will play later to capture the last three achievement. I consider it "finished" for December. Overall, not a great purchase. 6/10

For the rest of the month, thankfully I'm playing though better games, Fallout: London conversion, Drova, and Stalker 2. Trying to focus a bit on those before starting something else. Unfortunately, they're all 40+ hour games with the way I play.

Lucky 13 for December.
Still trying to get through all the old Trove games

  1. Oh Deer - hide and seek game. Note sure how it has a positive rating.
  2. Lyric Sonata - a weird musical side scroller. Quite liked it.
  3. Knight Club - passible fighter
  4. Kind Words - A chill cute game.
  5. Kimmy - Meh VN - pass
  6. Keyboard Sports - the final tribute! - Hard pass annoying
  7. Jawns - Weird strategy game
  8. Hitchhiker - subpar mystery game
  9. Heeey! Park-Boy - subpar adventure game
  10. Grotto - decent strange interactive fiction. Liked this one.
  11. Getting Over It with Bennett Foddy - weird game that I can't decide if it sucks or if it's just too weird for me.
  12. Gemini Rue - nice point & click adventure
  13. Fortune 499 - Really nice pixel strategy game
