Galaxy Note 8

Meh fine print:

lol. Note 2... wow.

But I am weighing my options here. I love my Note 5. Was planning on the Note 7 but...

I can only afford to do 1 thing right now. Either get a Vega 64 or the Note 8. Not both. I can wait till November/December and get Vega though.. So.. More than likely I'll forgo Vega till prices stabilize, manufacturing is sorted out and AIBs get their models out and hopefully mining dies out again.

I'd love a phone thats water resistant. I hate using my Note 5 in the rain for that fear. lol. The ONE thing I don't like about the Note 8- They made it longer. Jeeze........... Note 5 was perfect size. Not to big. Not to small. I'd have water proofed that, bumped the specs up along the way and called it a day.

The other minor thing which I ran by my employer and got an "exemption" to use Qualcomm SoCs as long as I have a remote kill software installed on the phone. lol.

I will say this also... Bixby is AMAZING.

That much better than the other voice apps like Cortana, Siri or Alexa? I do like the non pron name of Bixby a bit better tho... :bleh:

Note 8 is extremely expensive... but I do have a corporate account I can use from work to get it cheaper at Telus. But I hate going on another contract even if its just 2 years max now.

And I cant afford both either, (the roofers being here right now tells me that more than ever) and vega doesnt seem worth the price right now vs my RX 480 GTR BE unless I got a new mon that was at least 1440p.

Both seem too much for the money TBH.

Blows Siri out of the water. Alexa is about equal, if not a little behind. Cortana... Voice recognition is worse on Cortana. Bixby just seems to have a better algorithm on that front. Basically, they each have their strengths. Bixby just has the ability to do EVERYTHING. It can even lock your phone, restart it, edit pictures, control the camera... You tell Bixby to "Open Camera, take photo in UHD and edit photo" It will do all of those things in that order.

Wow.
That sounds impressive...very eager to get my hands on this phone, that pre-order can't ship soon enough.

Pre-ordered today. No luck getting a trade-in offer like in the US but they are offering a bonus 256GB MicroSD card with the pre-order, so that's something I guess. I still have the 128GB they gave me with the note 7. I kept all the accessories from the two note 7s that were recalled

Delivery date is set for later this month, can't wait to get rid of my Galaxy 7 edge, if I had a choice I would have gone back to my Note 5.

Looks like they were conservative with the battery capacity this time, understandably so after last year.

With my S7 Edge, I was an idiot.
I walked outside in my pajamas to get the mail, said pajamas had no pockets, so I tucked the phone in my pajamas hoping that the elastic of the waistband would have held it tight enough -- it slipped through my pant leg, hit the pavement along the edge, and the ensuing crack rendered the screen useless.
It had a case, but not a screen protector, not sure if that would have made a difference here though.

Off topic but what case? I've dropped my S7e a number of times (once while riding around 30km/h on pavement) and have never damaged the screen at all.

Lucky? Its the most common complaint I hear from people with the Edge version of the phones. Because of the way that screen is designed most of your common case's don't provide the same level of protection.

Anyone here preordered the note 8? Did you get charged for the order?
or does Samsung do it when it ships?

Dont recall when I was charged, honestly havent looked at my CC statement, but I received my preorder unit last night.

No complaints thus far -- this thing is sweet!

Yep, went with a Spigen.

The phone already fell out of my hand, due to my own clumsiness, when I banged the corner against a bathroom sink.
The case took the hit both on the corner, and as the phone fell onto a hard surface face first, again the case was there. It was probably a 3 foot drop -- not a scratch.

Spigen cases are made in Korea. AMAZING cases. I've had my Note 5 in a slim armor since I got it. Dropped it on concrete, gravel, grass, dirt.. lol

My Note 8 won't come in till mid-October. Unlocked version...

Ditto on Spigen cases, they are excellent. And yep, even protect curved edges in their design.

Got my Note 8 a week ago. For whatever reason Verizon shipped theirs early. So far, thumbs up. I didn't go case shopping until this past Saturday. Ended up with an Otterbox Commuter and an Invisible Shield screen protector. Not half an hour later I drop the darn thing in my girlfriend's place.

Thankfully it didn't happen before I got the case.

So after using the phone for a week, putting it through its paces, loading tons of apps onto it, it's still buttery smooth.

I haven't experienced any slowdowns, hiccups, anything that would hint that performance is compromised in the slightest.

I wonder how much of that has to do with the 6GB of RAM (coupled with a high-end SOC of course).

Do you restart the phone once in while? There an option to schedule that. I wonder if it's really necessary. I heard there's a benefit in doing it. Is there some kind of flaw with Android that require a restart to keep running trouble free?

Have only restarted once for the initial setup to finalize, haven't since.
I've had other Android device that seemed to benefit from occasional restarts over time, but thus far, this thing is ridiculously fluid.

Well, They pushed me out to November...1st. Like really.... I guess they didn't figure many people would be getting the unlocked version? Sure, I could order a US Cellular one but.. honestly... I hate US Cellular. Its just the cheapest provider around here that somewhat "works". $20/month for unlimited 4G data, talk, text etc.. Can't beat it. BUT- 4G is spotty around here.

Did You order it straight from Samsung? How did you find out your ship date got pushed? I don't see an estimated ship date on my order.
