Fortnite for Android Will Bypass Google’s Play Store

Epic said that because Apple allows iOS apps to be installed only through the iOS platform, the gaming company had no choice but to offer its game through the iOS App Store.

So Android users will have to enable installing apps from unknown sources and manually download and install the game.

So 2 initial thoughts here.
1: big publishers might follow suit, eventually leading to Google shutting down the ability to install your own apps outside of the play store.

2: a ton of predators descend on this pool of techilliterates trying to get them to install their fake Fortnite apks with God knows what in em.
 
I don't see Google ignoring this decision for very long.

Open architecture will be a thing of the past.
 
Google could stop being so greedy. A 30% surcharge just for having the app being sold via Google Play? Absurd. Google has no risk so why the steep surcharge?

You can thank the Great Firewall of China for that. Developer will make most of their free-to-play cash from Chinese whales.
 
I couldve sworn fornite was available on android phones since it was released on iOS. Its been on iOS for at least 3 months IIRC.

This is going to open a whole new can of worms for android phones. Top virus makers are salivating at this right now.

Just because Apple (and Steam) charge 30%, doesn't make it reasonable. On their respective platforms, they have a monopoly (google less so, as third part options are possible).

I can understand why some want to distribute apps not using those terms.

The only reason Fortnite isn't going around Apple is because they can't. They go around Steam, you have to get it direct from Epic for PC, can't get it through Steam. Your anger towards Google is misplaced, it should be towards Apple who gives you no option.

No worms for android phones only for the brain dead users that can not stop them selves from trying to pirate the game install from some one other than Epic. Then then they deserve what they get.

Got the invite already and game is installed. Just waiting on the official game start invite now. :cool:

Do you think Google is going to sit by idly and let companies do this in the future if more big name publishers start bypassing Google Play?

Soon you'll find yourself in a situation where you can no longer install non-store signed applications.

Amazon app store has been around forever and Google hasn't locked out 3rd party apps.

If they start to see umpteen million dollar deals go by them without any compensation, their attitudes will change.

Business realities took care of don't be evil in the end.
 
If Google wants to keep their OS on hundreds of millions of phones vs OSs like Samsung's, what is it Tisen, and Amazon OS, then they will keep it open. They think bigger picture then one or two video games. Even big video games. Even companies like LG, Sony, Huwaii and the like have been messing around with their own OS's.
Google likes being on all the phones Apple is not on. Big picture. Millions dollar deals are nothing in the light of the billions of dollars Google deals with.

Google has allowed phones to sideload apps since the very beginning, why would that change now, 9 versions in?
