Is it me or has Firefox became a bloated POS?
Opening in safemode with only one tab, it uses 130MB.
MS edge only uses 32MB with 8 tab open. Opera uses 71MB with one tab.

Meh, memory's cheap. And who really wants to use Edge? ;)

:p :D

I'm using FF 32bit with 7 tabs open and its using 445MB. Doesn't seem bad to me but I'm not memory starved in my pc? Doesn't anything 64bit use more memory having more registers? Are edge and opera 32 bit your using?

I would if it had a good pop-up blocker and noscript.

64 bit does use more memory. I was hoping it's more stable because I open a lot of tabs. I'm unable to select tabs after leaving it on for awhile. It could be a bug with 48. I haven't had this problem before. Maybe I should go back to 32bit. I finally enable multiprocess which increases the ram uses.:bleh: Maybe stable will improve since windows process are separated.
What's the default Edge launch for 64bit windows? Opera is 32bit. Did they stop development? I seen an update from opera for awhile.

Dunno. Google says the last stable release is less than a month old, with newer beta and developer releases.

The company was sold to some Chinese group a couple of months ago, though.

Do you have a figure for Chrome as well?

I think that Edge and Internet explorer as well use less memory because it is more integrated in the OS, which means it uses more services that are already loaded by the system.

Firefox and Opera for example are more standalone programs and therefore they need more components from their own distributions which of course consume more memory.

Despite Edge take less memory I would never use Edge or Chrome because they collect more personal data.

FF 64 with 28 tabs 1.2gb

FF 64 with 1 tab 360mb

Chrome with 1 tab 25mb

IE 11 with 1 tab 170mb

Edge with 1 tab 14mb

Opera with 1 tab 35mb

Got 24 gigs of ram not too worried about it lol.
:p I though 16gb is more than enough. I had 4gb as a ram drive. I have stuff firefox crash on me a bunch of times. I guess it because I ran out memory.
Fun thing the way windows reports the Available memory.

That's a good point. I started Opera in Private browsing with a blank page. I see it has extra processes totaling 170mb.

That makes sense. The only thing I like about Edge is the zoom. It so smooth. How come no other browser has it? You wouldn't use it for news either?

I only use it to open .pdf files, and that's only because MS took away the built-in reader and made Edge the default in Win10. But I wouldn't use it for browsing just to spite them for being so insistent that I use it. :bleh:

But I also avoid Chrome, so I think that means my opinion is suspect anyway.

You don't like Adobe reader?

You don't like Adobe reader?

You're kidding, right? Anything that comes "free" from Adobe is a bug-ridden nightmare, security-wise. Finally got rid of flash a couple of years ago, but I've been rid of Adobe Reader for a lot longer. There have always been better, lighter-weight alternatives. Windows has had built-in support for .pdf since Win8 anyway... they just make you use Edge now.

I understand Flash need to go. I didn't think adobe reader is that bad. When was the last time you used Adobe reader? Adobe was bloated and then I make the switch to foxit reader. The Adobe reader for android is great.
I installed Adobe reader over 1yr ago and it seemed to have improved quite a bit. I think it's the only pdf reader that has Sandboxing. It doesn't like it does anything for them. I think it should be ok as long as they & you patch it. Unlike Flash, you have more control what PDF files you open. :bleh: I see no reason to try it again even if it's bug free.:p

Adobe installer is twice the size of foxit. What's the deal with that?:bleh:
It's looks like they update it frequently. So that's sort of a good thing.

I see no reason to install third-party software when there's native support. :p

I'm pretty sure I haven't used Adobe Reader on any of my own PCs since WinXP. But I have to use it at work. You're never gonna convince me it's completely bloat-free. ;)

No problem been using this one since ditching foxit years ago.
Yep, Foxit got busted for installing malware (OpenCandy/Conduit) along with their software a couple years back. They supposedly went and removed it after getting slammed for doing it, but the damage had already been done. They got booted off the short list permanently.

The Edge is missing basic features like bookmarks.
You know best since you have no choice but to use it. It funny how Adobe couldn't make a solid reader when it them who created the format.
