So, I wanted to see if anyone else thought the foundation expansion was as **** as i did? The base game was great. Had a few problems, but mostly just plain enjoyment, but the expansion was awful, frustrating and made no sense at all.
Is it just me, or was that how it was for everyone?
Am going to play the second expansion after i have a break from it, i need to cool down :/
I enjoyed the Foundation DLC. No it wasn't as good as the main game but most DLCs aren't anyways. But after finishing the main story I was in love with the game and was just happy to have more content that added at least a little more lore about the oldest house. The Alan Wake DLC was definitely better.

Control is one of the 30 games (out of hundreds) I've finished. Twice even. Loved all of it. Lost interest in the expansion. Caves and stuff bored me. Plus, I think there was another game I wanted released around.
Maybe i just had a different experience with foundation, but it was pretty bad for me. The AWE dlc is way better, though i made it worse by playing foundation first, because now the foundation melee enemies are in AWE too, where as before going down into the Foundation they didnt spawn.
So my Gripes are three fold i think.
First, the new melee enemy is ****ing op. It's melee so its fast, so it can get into your face thats fine. If you are out of reach it can throw its weapon at you, anoying, but fine. It's weapon homes in on you... ok, thats a little iffy... It can teleport... ok now its a bit much. It's teleport allows it to doge your abilities and your gun shots... ok wtf... its teleport allows it to teleport through walls... ok seriously wtf.... ALSO they make now sense lore wise. WHERE DID THEY COME FROM?
If they are some kind of native, why did literally nobody mention them in any of the lore. If they were the old house crew, why do they have axes and look like tribal people? They arent even the ones who drew the cave wall paintings as Ash admits he did those... All of the other mimics and hiss make sense, but not the melee guys.
Second, the random difficulty of enemies. Half the enemies in foundation take 4-5 shots from the fully upgraded pierce before dying... My launch ability that one hit enemies during the "RAGE the video game crossover stupid ****ing ending boss fight event" now takes 6-7 shots to kill things... then i ****ing three hit a boss with launch in the next room... what the hell is with the foundations difficulty?
Thirdly, and the most important part the story didnt make any sense!! The overall plot was fine, but individual things that happened in it were stupid as ****. Jesse multiple times sees the Former, but then thinks its the Board talking to her, Despite it having a different voice as well. Then, Marshel is talking on the hotline, but she isnt even dead shes being controlled by the hiss, which goes against the lore of the hotline. Then there is the teleporting ranger backups, then there is Pope, who flat out has memories of jesse ordering her down into the foundation when she didnt, and is still sitting in her chair in the central area if you teleport back there. As well as other things i dont remember off the top of my head.
Also the animations during the cutscenes/talking are awkward as ****, like they were made by an entirely different team. compared to the main game.
Then there is the former at the end... actually wtf. You walk into an opening with a view of the foundation pillars and see the actual former in person, in our dimension and jesse not only doesnt comment on it, but talks about something else, then wraps up the story as it cuts to black and then the credits roll...
Thirdly point five: I actually think they had something else entirely planned for Foundation, and then someone high up said it was too coomplicated and forced them to cull most of it. The reason is the mimics. If you think of the Pope and crew as well as the ranger support in the foundation, they all act slightly off. Even popes jokes are "off" compared to the oc. Then marshell, and the former too, would all make sense, if there was a plot removed from foundation where they were all mimics, and were messing with jesses head.
Even the nail and locks, make way more sense if the Former was messing with jesses head. Seriously, how does anyone think Breaking "Locks" helps secure and strengthen the board? Who the **** put the locks there in the first place and how do "LOCKS" repair the Nail? It would have made far more sense if the former was confusing and tricking jesse into unlocking its own cage. The mimics and freeing the Former would explain all the weird ****, as well as connect all the broken dots in the foundation plot wholes.
I mean, even the fact that mimics copied people in ASH's lore notes, but then you dont see a single mimic copy anything but the hiss in the entire expansion, is just another plot hole that screams there was meant to be more to it. EDIT: forgot the spoiler tag
Following major acclaim for both “Alan Wake” and “Control,” Finnish game developer Remedy Entertainment is now branching out and is developing “Condor” – a four-player co-op multiplayer spin-off of “Control” for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
That’s not all though as the company is also developing another bigger-budget single-player entry in the “Control” series. No dates for either project have been given but it was indicated “development takes a long time” which suggests it’s years off.
Remedy and publisher 505 Games revealed the deal together on Remedy’s official site where game director Mikael Kasurinen also discussed the inevitable scepticism of a single-player studio making a multiplayer game:
“I believe we can create shared experiences without compromising the unique DNA of who we are, or the stories we want to tell. Yes, we need to re-think our angles, our techniques, our mindset, but we see it as an exciting challenge: What would a Remedy multiplayer game look like?.”
Recent rumors have suggested the studio is currently busy with a remaster of and/or sequel to “Alan Wake” which shares the same ‘universe’ as “Control” going by the DLC for the title.

I also thought the Foundation DLC sucked. I don't disagree with your gripes, but my primary issues were the environment was lame compared to those from the main game, and it just felt tedious and not really fun. Wish I hadn't wasted my time with it.
I did enjoy the AWE DLC though. Looking forward to getting another Alan Wake.
So, I polished this game off a couple of weeks ago. I really enjoyed this one. I mostly started it out to check out ray tracing/DLSS, but was immediately drawn in. I pretty much played through it non-stop as I had the chance.
Story/Atmosphere- 9/10
This game is mostly about the story and setting. In some ways it reminded me of about half a dozen games including Doom (2004), Fear, System Shock 2, Undying, Deus Ex, Area 51, Alan Wake (no surprise), but it was still a unique combination in the end. It was a combination of conspiracy theories actually being real, "daemonic" possession and paranormal powers.
It's hard to describe specifically what I liked about the setting, without just going on forever. You just have to play it to understand. In any case, it immediately drew me in and held me until the end.
Game play- 8/10
Overall game play was pretty good. Combat was pretty fun with it being a combination of shooting game play and using psychic powers to throw objects, possess people, or defend against attacks. There was some clunkiness to it, but in general it worked out pretty well. I felt like the weapons vs psychic powers balance was pretty good. You were encouraged to shoot when your powers were down, and neither felt useless or overpowered compared to the other.
With that being said, there were some misfires. It seemed like you took huge hits from some enemy attacks, to the point where sometimes you would go from being totally fine to being dead almost instantaneously. I had to put a lot of points/mods into health and health recovery just to last. It got better toward the end of the game after being upgraded more, but early on it could be frustrating.
The mod system in the game was a decent concept, but the implementation ended up being irritating. You started out getting crappy mods, and then later on better ones dropped so you had to keep replacing them. Early on you get general mods like "+X to throw", then at later levels you suddenly start getting very specific mods like "+X to throw after dodging". Inexplicably the specific mods didn't seem to have bigger modifiers, so they were really pointless to use versus something that was in effect all the time. This was exacerbated by the fact that the "after X" mods had a very short active duration, so they ran out before you could really take advantage of them.
On top of that you could only carry a painfully limited number of mods (24 if I recall correctly). So, I constantly had to destroy mods to pick up another. Managing mod inventory just ended up being a waste of time, and this issue could have been greatly improved by letting you carry 50 mods, or hell even unlimited--what does it matter? Also, why did we have to have stupid upgrading mod drops in the first place, why not just select a mod and have it level up on its own? The whole thing was a time waster mechanic that detracted from the game.
Weapon balance could have been better. I'll put my thoughts in a spoiler just in case someone doesn't want to be spoiled on what weapons there are.
The shotgun was useful early in the game, but was quickly superseded and by the end of the game it was worthless even when totally upgraded. The assault rifle/minigun was so inaccurate and ran out of ammo so fast that it was almost useless, except in a couple of very specific situations. For some reason you get a grenade launcher after all the other weapons, yet it was more difficult to use and less effective than the rocket launcher that you already had. It was pointless to even have in the game.
In the end the only really useful weapons were the pistol for fast accurate attacks, the sniper for one shot kills at a distance, and then the rocket launcher for blowing away numerous enemies. They were just better than the other options.
The two weapon limit wasn't that much of a hindrance because you could simply open the menu up and switch them at any time. However, I think on PC I'd have preferred if I could just scroll through all the weapons at any time. The two weapon limit didn't really add anything to the game play.
Graphics- 8/10
The game looked pretty good, but at the same time for the level of visuals offered I felt like performance could have been better. Doom Eternal looks better and yet runs twice as fast.
Ray tracing added slightly to the visuals, but the performance hit was extreme. Even on a 3080 I was getting less than 100 FPS with ray tracing enabled at 1440P (I know that is fine for many, but I prefer higher FPS). DLSS added strange artifacts to ray tracing that were annoying, but I used it anyway since I felt performance was borderline. It added 20-30 FPS.
Comparing ray tracing on vs off, the effects were pretty subtle. It didn't change the feel of the game much with them on vs off. The ray traced reflections were nice at times, but if they weren't there you wouldn't have really noticed. Also the reflections on transparent surfaces seemed too strong, more like it was actually something on the other side of the glass than a reflection in it.
I guess the bottom line from my perspective is if you don't have a ray tracing card then you're not missing out on much. Likewise, if you have a slow ray tracing card just disable ray tracing and save yourself the performance. DLSS is OK, but not "magical extra performance" like it's sometimes made out to be.
Sound- 7/10
Decent. Didn't really stand out either way.
DLCs- Mixed AWE DLC- 9/10 (as good as main game) Foundation DLC- 4/10 (just felt like a waste of time)
Overall - 9/10
Overall I'll give the game a 9/10. Part of me feels this is generous, similar to Prey (2017). At the same time, I started the game and almost couldn't stop playing it, and I thought it was better than other games I gave 8.5/10s (i.e. The Witcher). So, I'll set the mark at 9/10. I definitely recommend this game to those who haven't played it yet. It really is a blast. A good mix of action, with also some interesting lore.

I am playing Alan Wake before I complete the AWE DLC.
I put in a lot of hours into Control and I think the Foundation was pretty so so(Meh).I enjoyed the challenging final main mission even though I got beaten a lot before I completed it.
The graphics were very nice except for the occasional DLSS artifact.
Been a while now since I played it but I agree the Foundation was pretty sub standard compared to the main game. I think it was because the underground environment was kind of dull and the enemies weren't so fun to fight against, bordering on annoying. AWE was a big improvement, especially in story. Was a worthy expansion to the great narrative of the main game.
I would say if you wanted to save some time the Foundation is OK to skip.
Has anyone thought the default mouse sensitivity is way too high in the game? I've had to reduce it down to like 22 or something for it to be reasonable.

I had to stop playing Quantum because there were more cut scenes and video than gameplay. Kept stopping any immersion forcing you to watch 5 minute cut scenes every 3 minutes of gameplay !
So, if you are into seni-interactive movies then fill your boots.
I really enjoyed Quantum Break, more than most other games. This is more of a movie, portrayed in a game style. It's an enjoyable experience with choices at junctions. Combat is casual with support for controllers and keyboard & mouse. The movie aspect of this game is an incredible, breathtaking experience, and I recommend this to anyone looking for an experience.
