Control

I've been playing a lot past couple days, at the part where I just got levitate ability . Its a really fun game, loving the fast action and sci-fi story but its a bit too easy maybe.

Although i just wandered into a section off the current path that seemed like i wasnt supposed to be there yet. Tons of enemies that just kept coming and things weren't going well so i retreated, so it does have potential to be challenging. Feels very Metroid-vania at times.

Think if you play smart and closely follow story it is not too difficult. My first playthrough I did the opposite and had some challenges with later boss fights.

One of my favorite games. Story, gameplay, & graphics were all top notch.

I finished this game couple weeks ago but with the release of Cyberpunk and all the related news and discussion I never got around to coming back here and giving my thoughts. My feelings of the game aren't fully fresh in my mind anymore but I want to try to do it now before my old brain starts to forget everything.

For me Control is a rare game that I had high expectations for going in and it actually still surpassed them. It is a full on masterpiece of a game in my opinion in almost all respects, with very few or no problems. I loved every minute of it and will absolutely play the DLC to get more of the lore and great action, and hope for a sequel someday.

While the gameplay was super fun and addicting, I think its the story and setting that hooked me the most. The very Twilight Zone, Twin Peaks, X-Files type vibe it has is my favorite style of sci-fi and they nailed it so well. I read every single piece of collectible lore I could find, and all were interesting and great for world building. The Old House as the setting gave a feeling of wonder and curiosity I haven't seen in a game since Portal 2. We really need more of this seriously well crafted world building in games. I am really thinking about seeking out Quantum Break now in hopes to get more of that quality as its a recent Remedy game I skipped.

As for the gameplay, just great tight easy to learn controls that are fun and addicting and the game's particle physics and destructible environments give a great feeling of impact and power. What's not to like. The weapon upgrades I know are the point of contention for some in this game, but I thought they were fine here. They could have made it more fleshed out but I think its all you need and served its purpose just fine. You had the basic tried and true video game weapon types, with the ability to grind for upgrades, and lots of different personal and weapon buffs to choose from depending on playstyle. It was sufficient for an action game of this kind. If anything maybe the menu could have been cleaned up a bit and/or made more easily understandable from the start. It was at times somewhat cumbersome to break the action to manage the inventory when it got full.

Overall great, highly recommended. My only concern would be you'd probably need to be fully interested in the story to keep your attention. I can see how for some the combat while fun, can get repetitive after a while. But if the story is engaging for you and you just keep following it as the main focus it will be fun from start to finish.

[EDIT] I also plan to keep the game installed for the time being so I can jump in every so often and do the post endgame side content. There's apparently still more objectives to complete and I know there are more boss fights to find. Actually really enjoyed the boss fights in this game, so will absolutely try to 100% this game.

I decided to finish this guy off while waiting for christmas. Enjoyed all of it except the damned dimensional monster thing in the fridge. I eventually just gave up and moved on... best idea I've had. :)

I'm set up as a thrower... so satisfying to fling chunks of concrete at enemies.

The setting reminds me of The X-Files crossed with The Lost Room, especially the motel sequence. Objects of Power... Lost Room.

More like Twin Peaks. I get more twin peaks vibes of this game more so than anything.

You know, I kept thinking the Oceanview Motel sequences reminded me of some other show but I couldn't think of what it was. I think it was The Lost Room I was thinking of, so thanks for that. Will definitely check it out.

I enjoyed that series... it definitely wasn't fun.. fairly bleak and depressing, actually, but really engaging.

I think that was their big problem with it, so it didn't get picked up. Instead it was revamped into Warehouse 13 as near as I can tell.. similar universe, magical objects, yada yada, but a lot less emotionally draining and fun.

I just watched a trailer then picked up a used copy on Ebay for $7. We'll see how it is, looks interesting and something I'd be into. Thanks for the recommendation!

Enjoy!

But the link I had above mentioned that it's available for free streaming.

Today, you can stream "The Lost Room" for free on The Internet Archive, TubiTV, the Roku Channel and Amazon Prime.. The DVD is also available on Amazon.

People interested can look around.

Enjoy!

Yes i checked streaming options first and did notice you can stream it but i like to collect physical copies of shows and movies. Content gets removed from these services on a whim too often so i like to just have it physically.

Normally I'd watch it before buying but since it was only $7 shipped figured just grab it.

Curiosity is getting to me... watch it yet?

Yep, I watched the first hour and half episode 1 last week. Its a bit goofy at times since its an obvious sci-fi channel show, but I definitely like the premise and concept. It would have been so much cooler if it was done in the style of Twin Peaks or something by George Lynch. Just needs a bit more style. I will finish it soon, just haven't had the time lately. Maybe this week.

Seen quite a few posts from people saying that the TVA in the Loki trailer reminds them of the Federal Bureau from this game.

Its got the same 1960's classified government agency vibe going for it, same as in Control. But that's about where the similarities, and interest for me end.
