Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel

The issue with the previous games was that they were tedious.

Go to point B which involves passing through the same camp for the ten millionth time only to fight bandits, again. Go to another camp and shoot the same dudes with a level macthing your own.

That got real boring, quickly.

I expect the same from this one too.

I find the first one to be enjoyable enough to finish once, but I couldn't endure the second one past the halfway point, as well. I think the issue was that the second was basically the same game as the first one, but with more of everything. This "everything" includes grind -- the awful, awful, grind that it requires even on the first playthrough. Having to clear the same boring map several times to complete inane missions that are supposed to be different, but play all the same.:o

Yeah, that seems about right. I remember KAC saying that after he stopped doing side missions the game became way more enjoyable. I thought about trying that out myself.

Note to anyone who started but didn't finish borderlands 2. Jack is one of the best written bad guys in any game seen before. The story may not be mind blowing, but it makes the second game worth completing. Go and do it.

The second one didn't hold my attention at all. Atleast with the first one they actually had decent assault rifles...

That is probably my biggest disappointment in 2 and Pre-Sequal - there used to be some great Assault Rifles and Machine Guns but I get that they had to reduce the variety a bit because they had too many types of ammo the first time (but too bad the affixes in 2 weren't conducive to awesome rifles).

That said, I got over it pretty quickly :p They at least made rocket launchers useful in 2 where they were pretty useless in the first one.

Also, Dave, just a question:

Why is it that Borderlands doesn't hold your attention but you play thousands of hours of Diablo 3? In my mind they are almost exactly the same other than the controls. Diablo 3 you play the same portions over and over, earn loot and XP, rinse and repeat. At least Borderlands has had some excellent storytelling attached to it! Not that I am picking a fight or really saying they are the same game, but a lot of the things people complain about in Borderlands are things they love in Diablo.

Imo d3 feels more rewarding. Gear also has more variety which leads to more build options

Nothing in borderlands really changes your build much

This and the fact I didn't have many friends playing borderlands 2, so I never got to play it co-op. Borderlands 1 I did play co-op with a friend. Diablo 3 was pretty much always with atleast 1-2 other guys from Rage3D playing.

D3 (or any other semi-competent Diablo-likes) is much faster paced. And of course, D3 has much larger variety of loots, builds, and enemies -- even though D3 was a step-down when it comes to loot variety and build variety, compared to games like PoE.

finished it with a claptrap lv 25. Main quest finish in 12-14 hrs.

now I understand why jack(john) became such a douchebag in bl2.

Lol, I'm 15 1/2 hours in and I don't think I'm near completion. These games for me, though, I savour rather than devour.

Currently running two characters side-by-side... Nisha is my main at level 14 for my mouse/keyboard desktop run and Claptrap is level 10 for my laying-in-bed-with-my-nVidia Shield controller play through.

Not sure I'm a huge fan of Claptrap, though... maybe it's because controller is harder, but not really knowing what type of action his vaulthunter.exe or whatever will do makes it tough (though it does make him unique).

Nisha has been loads of fun, though... love that they have given the main characters more vocalization and her inner monologue is truly vicious (she's had a rough life).

That said, the game is really starting to grow on me... each of the 3 games are similar enough, yet unique enough, that they have their own place. I even reinstalled Borderlands to remind myself and possibly play around with once in a while (totally get why people like the first, some of the guns and the gunplay is a lot less over the top but more vicious whereas 2 and PS is more crazy).

I'm also getting a little bit of a Tribes vibe with the Oz kit... it's kind of a pseudo jetpack and can be used to boost around and shoot guys from above. Definitely more fun than I expected (just wish I could ski like in Tribes).

Overall I'm definitely enjoying this... characters are starting to get pretty cliche, though, which might be the weakest aspect thus far and I don't see any sign of the vault hunters from BL2 so I guess they are basically one-offs. Still, glad I got this one and will certainly fall for the Season Pass trap down the road.

Atmosphere and gunplay is fun, and I find myself using the laser weapons exclusively. The new cryo element and the ground smash is cool as well. I also really enjoy the soundtrack.

Some annoyances:

1. Backtracking (worse than BL1/2), and fast travel locations are poorly placed IMO.

2. Some map layouts, although nice looking can be confusing and burdensome at times, mostly the outlands.

3. The side quests are mostly boring and lack variety. The distances you have to travel for most of them feel like they're just adding length to nothing.

4. The dialog, mostly poorly done and not really funny. This is the most disappointing aspect. The characters are eccentric and sometimes just plain annoying; the actual humor is lacking. There's a lot of screaming. Compared to BL1 [especially the general knox DLC], it just sucks. Jack is still funny though.

Just started it today. Not bad at all. Though I don't see myself finishing it this year. Started with Athena. Which character are you guys playing?

Athena is the most boring. Clappy is the funniest (random ults aren't consistent, but they are hilarious, especially in multiplayer), and Wilhelm seems to be the most practical.

Wilhelm is practical, but he has all the personality of a brick wall.

Playing Nisha and enjoying it a lot. Power is highly effective and I like her skill trees, plus her personality is sorry of similar to Jack's so her comments are amusing, vicious, or both.
