1. Models for a movie/game room primarily for BL movies and Steam Big Picture

2. Wait for Black Friday?

Higher end samsung plasmas are pretty good also(I have a 63" model) Panny's are good also. Make sure whichever ones you go with have the cinemasmooth option(samsungs version, cant remember what panasonic calls it) Basically gives you a 4:4 pulldown and 96hz refresh on 24fps sources.

IMO, get a TV with 3D even if you don't plan to use it. At some point you might (unless you can foresee the future ;) ), and then you are off to buy another TV. I would recommend getting the best TV with the most up to date features that your wallet can manage. At least try to feature-proof yourself as much as you can.

Whats your budget Bires? I disagree mahjik, if u dont care for 3d you can save a decent chunk of money getting a non 3d version.(what i did)

if you can find a P60GT50 that will be better than the ST60.. I have a P55GT50 and I love it.

So it looks like this one is the model. (I have a 42" and 50" Pan-plasma) already.

So...

Anyone waited for Black Friday before? Will it pay off for these models, or will I only see cheapo Vizios on sale?

Nowadays there are plenty of deals right before and after Black Friday as well (and Cyber Monday).

So you can wait, and the good thing is since most of the deals are within a few days of each other, depending on the retailer, you may be able to call and get a price match :)

I am planning on a new tele, but not sure if I'll pull the trigger. My old 1080p still works well enough.

I never looked at Plasmas before but thanks for posting this thread it has made me aware. I'll need a new TV as well but mostly for games/desktop/bluray movies. (No cable TV). It's basically going to run 100% from my PC as this past TV has.

Are plasmas good for this now? (Years ago there was the burn in thing and people saying not to hook up your PC to them). Is the 3D&SmartTV worth the extra $$ ?

These seem like good options for me and the OP: ??
1. Panasonic VIERA 50" 1080p 600Hz 3D Plasma Smart TV (TCP50ST60) $1300
2. Panasonic VIERA 55" 1080p 600Hz 3D Plasma Smart TV (TCP55ST60) $1600

hooray for $CAD pricing. Should be less over the holidays.

Also, what's the reason for going for Plasma over LED?

Plasma just has all around better image quality. Deeper, inkier blacks. Smoother, more natural looking motion. And the old drawbacks of plasma tech (burn in, image retention, power consumption) have been largely improved. Not to mention they are usually cheaper than comparable LED TVs.

However, if you are going to use it as your PC monitor I would still consider going the LED route. It is the only time I will suggest LED over plasma. I think the risk of burn in would be more so when using it for a PC. Although, if you are careful about not leaving static images on screen for too long (like your desktop) you might be OK.

How long before burn in takes effect? Does say browsing these forums cause burn in? I'm guessing the windows taskbar would burn in? That's one thing that might stay static for hours.

Lets say for sake of argument chose an extreme case. Say you have the desktop up for 8hrs straight (then TV off or doing something else), every day. Will that cause burn in on the Plasma?
