Bad news for the video card scene

[yt]SXnNKiHUa0E[/yt]

A good explanation of why it's getting worse and how crypto is exacerbating the issue.

EDIT: And watching the video, it wasn't my imagination as they too noticed the video card prices jumping literally month to month with no signs of slowing down. Instead of waiting for them to get cheaper, they are getting more expensive. I realize that I already have my card as do many of us here, but I still want to prices to go back to MSRP because gamers should have easy access to go buy a card should the one they are using just die on them (those guys I really feel for).

As the video says, things are worse outside the US. MUCH WORSE.
Here in Italy the situation for 3000 cards is beyond ridiculous.
I can assure you NOBODY here is buying these cards at these prices.
Btw, 2080’s are unavailable and 2060’s come at 3070’s msrp (!)
Terrible times for gamers.
Just so you know, I couldn’t sell my hard-top 2008 MX-5 in mint conditions with less than 25000 miles for more than 10000€. Look at the last 3090. I (dis)respectfully spit on it.

1€=1,21$, do the math.

EDIT: removed an extra zero from my car’s mileage :D

Can you really purchase a 3080 from $12.82? If so buy me 100 and ship them too me so I can scalp them.

Coma's and periods in the wrong place???

12800 euros // 14000 $ ? for a 3090 ....

AHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHahahhahahaHAHA

Makes me glad I got my 2070 when I did instead of holding out for the next generation, because there is no freakin way I'd be buying a card at current prices.

These GPU prices will severely impact PC gaming if the prices hold.

I am more curious what kind of prices will be after this bubble crash and also the new rtx4000 gen gpu will apear...
I hope i can get a decent gpu like rtx3090 for playing decently at the 1440p at nice price discount.

badsykes the 3090 is overkill for 1440p. I had every game balls to the walls maxed out and was only utilising at best 80% of the GPU in most games. That's why I bought a UW-QHD and that's now pushing the card much better. I'd say that's the minimum you need if anyone wants a 3090.

If i keep it for at least 3 years and also going into RTX then it's not imo.
I bought the Vega56 for 1080p in 2017 and now i realize that there are games that even in 1080p can't be run at 60fps...It may have been overkill in 2017 or 2018 but now in 2021 i feel not.

Later EDIT: i looked again in the charts on techpowerup

https://www.techpowerup.com/review/msi-geforce-rtx-3080-ti-suprim-x/28.html

The 3090 is just 9% over 3080 .... This is not much difference for the price.
Also the 3080ti is in the same boat with 7% is not so big deal if i want to keep the card for some years factoring the cost of buying...If the 3090 or the 3080ti were more 15% it did count...

The best buy from 30x0 series is the 3080 at msrp or wait for 4000 series...

badsykes I sometimes think you live on a different planet to us. I had a vega64 and it played great at 1440p. My 5700XT performed admirably at 1440p at well over 60 fps. You'd be fine with a 3070 or 6700/6800XT if you want to game at 1440p at 60 fps. The 3090 has now been elevated to a Titan class card and will be marketed at game devs and 3D artists so good luck with price reductions.

No one is disputing the 3080 is the sweet card but ITS UNAVAILABLE at MSRP. I haven't seen one listed in the UK for probably 6 months and let's face it the Jacket panicked with the price because he was worried about the new consoles and what AMD had to come. Now he's seen what the competition has to offer why do you think the 3080ti is $1,199? Not rocket science. AMD has gone missing in action big time on the GPU front which is allowing Nvidia to charge what it likes.

Neither AMD or Nvidia care about gamers they only care about profits because they have shareholders to consider. That's how companies work in the real world its just business. They're not bad or evil they're just doing their business as profitably as they can. As for waiting for the 4000 series you might have longer to wait than you think.

I think if you have gotten a hold of XSX or PS5 there is no need to have a dedicated PC for gaming. Especially if you are OK with a pad. Most games I played this year were designed for consoles in mind. Plus there are no longer the PC only games that I used to enjoy like Strategy or Isometric RPG. Maybe flight sim might be a reason you want PC for but for 95% of the people PC is pretty irrelevant right now especially with the quality of games out this year.

You misunderstood.I am not willing to pay the current prices. If i can receive it as a gift or win it in the current state of the market. But i am willing to get as top as i can when the market crash at some point and also the rtx4000 series may apear. Now i have other things to spend money on like traveling and repair the car.
My behaviour with gpu's is this.Stay with 1080p and buy a 500$ card like vega56 and play everything maxed out and keep it for some years. With 1440p to keep the same behaviour a rtx3080 seems the confortable spot.
I am used to play on very high or even ultra btw .... I like single player games with full eye candy. :P

I dunno, all the games I play regularly are PC only, plus VR.

Fair enough. You are the 5%.
Also there are tons more console gamers so by default PC seems to be a smaller group (relatively). Seems console supply is improving at least in UAE and you can now find PS5 for as low as 700 bucks which is a first.

What you say that usually PC gamers buy also consoles ?

I dunno about 5%, the top steam top games are PC only (maybe cause it's steam?), but yeh..

It's just KAC spewing ****

There's plenty of strategy games out that are fairly new. Total War Rome Remastered, and CK3 are two I've been playing. I've been a Hell Let Loose addict for a while now, and that's another PC only game.
