Any thoughts on Firefox Quantum?

Aside from a new skin, I haven't noticed any major differences. It does seem a little snappier but that's just my perception at this point. Chrome still loads faster.

I have noticed a pretty big difference now when browsing Ebay.

Before Quantum, browsing Ebay was unusable. Just extremely slow and page loads would frequently freeze up completely. Now it loads the site lightning fast. It also just seems a bit faster overall with all websites I've been on since updating.

Just installed it to check it out. It's definitely faster than chrome. Very snappy, and the UI is nice and clean.

Not sure I'm going to use it over chrome though.

Here's a thought:

IT ****ING SUCKS.

screwed up some of my favorite add-ons (including classic theme restorer), can't adjust the size of the toolbar buttons (AFAIK), had to declutter the empty tab page of all the **** they put on it (and what's left is tiny)....

if I wanted to use Chrome, I would have just switched to Chrome.

The more I use it, the more I like it. Switched to Firefox as my default browser from Chrome.

My biggest gripe with Firefox is that, a few updates ago they stopped support for the Roboform toolbar. Now it's a single icon on the main bar just like Chrome.

Have you tried Waterfox? For all intents and purposes, it's the same old Firefox you used to have. I know for a fact that CTR is still compatible with it.

I agree with Meteor, though. I pretty much just run with uBlock and call it a day. The only real problem I've had with Firefox is that ever since it started chasing Chrome and tinkering with the UI, there weren't any real themes available for it. As far as I was concerned, Classic Theme Restorer was a requirement to fix the abomination that was Australis... but I don't mind the default Quantum theme nearly as much.

Waterfox is still my default (simply not a fan of Chrome), but so far I've been digging the new Firefox.

We use Firefox at work and those are slower computers. Firefox 56 and a few of the previous versions was essentially unusable. It seemed to choke on just about every page.

The new version is noticeably more responsive. So, in terms of usability, it seems better on slower machines if you have to use it.

But, compared to Vivaldi, I can't say it performs any faster. Other than at startup, Vivaldi noticeably lags there.

Ever since electrolysis was released, I started making a further modification to Firefox: in about:config, set dom.ipc.processCount to 50. You trade off memory usage, but it provides an additional speed boost. Works even better with 57.

Enjoying it a lot. I've been using Chrome since it came out in 2008. Firebird, then Firefox, before that. Been a while since I've been able to make Firefox my default browser again.

Regarding broken plugins, yeah, that sucks for a lot of people. However, I do prefer customizing most of the UI with a custom .css. It means I can single out exactly what I want, rather than have a much larger add-on behind the scenes.

The backlash for the broken plugins is a bit blown out of proportion. They are add-ons, mods, created by a third party. Nobody should expect Mozilla to design their browser around them. And with big updates, something is bound to break. It happens to a lot of software.

I've been using it quite a bit and am not seeing any issues at all. I only have an adblocker and noscript installed.

I've also been using edge a good deal lately to learn what it's about etc, and edge is noticeably smoother and quicker on my laptop, but FF is still my primary go to browser.

I'm 100% switched over now that my sabnzb plugin was updated. That and adblock are the only two plugins I use.

Same, and I never expected to say that. I loaded it on my work PC yesterday and noticed it's quite a bit faster than Chrome, and I like the look of the interface too. Pretty happy with it. Importing my settings from Chrome was easy too.

Quantum is definitely faster than previous Firefox. Enough that I stopped using chrome. Only addon is adblock plus.

However, it's still not as fast as Edge. Edge is lightning fast, but doesn't have the addon support that Firefox/Chrome enjoys.
