Android aren't that interesting anymore

Is it just me or Android has become boring, the newer version isn't giving anything good and newer iteration of phones is basically the same as old ones with minor updates. Only thing is the size of the phones continue to grow. It's very hard to find flagship spec on 5 inch phones. If you want it you need to go 5.5 inch at least. Meh.

Good case of point? Samsung new Galaxy S8, 5.8 inch minimum WTF?? That was up from 5.1 inch on standard S7

iOS hasn't changed dramatically either. I don't really care if the OS is boring, as long as apps are snappy, the battery life is good, and the camera meets my needs.

As for size, I think the width of the S8 is about the same as the S7, it's just a little taller. Plus they minimized the bezel and removed the physical buttons to make the screen area larger. The weight is the same.

It is true as long as it's snappy it'll do but one thing I don't like is newer phones is harder to root. It is something I must have. Also, in camera department I'm looking for full manual control.

I just noticed the S8 no longer have physical button, Samsung finally move in that direction but it is something I don't like. It is still bigger though, bigger screen means bigger body, there's no two way about it. Other companies also doing the same thing, LG G5 to G6 - 5.3 to 5.7 inch, HTC M9 to 10 5.0 to 5.2 inch

Personally I like the larger phone screens because I can actually type on the on-screen keyboard worth a damn. Plus I'm getting older so my eyes aren't nearly as good as they used to be. My kids have the iPhone SE and I can barely read anything on that small phone. In 20 years I'll probably need an 80" phone. :D

Look at how much of the front is the screen. The percentage has shot up even from the previous generation.

And like Windows Hello, the Iris scanner is going to see more use moving forward.

Things are still happening, but since this is a mature industry now, you are not going to see a completely revolutionary product or concept every year.

It is still amazing (to me) but I can see why some people may feel jaded:

Yea it's worth noting that while screen size's have gone up. This year they went up without increasing the size of the phones much as they moved to tiny bezels.

But your right this year especially not much unique really.

Indeed larger phones makes it better to use but it can't fit properly on jeans or any sort of pants I wear :p

If I could replace the battery in my htc one m9 I would and never buy another phone again.
Sealed battery is major annoyance since it first came out

People still going with screen to body ratio? Please, I would like to have some space between the edges so I won't accidentally touch it when holding it.

If the flagship phone price is maintained throughout it would be good, but each new generation it increases more and more to the point of ridicule. Although not a good comparison, I could buy a good spec laptop for the price.

One good thing about all this, it push the price of older flagship down without losing much of functionality of newer models :D

Smartphones in general just aren't that interesting. The form factor is going to have to change drastically for them to be interesting again, IMO. There's only so much you can do.

Yes Apocalypsee, and it's awesome. The more affordable phones are really not that far off the flagships.

They they are getting very thin now. They could probably bring back dual screens and have it open like a book.

Phones are designed to work even with accidental touches. Hardware and software has improved to the point this is not an issue.

Much better to have a smaller, more ergonomic body than a gigantic one with massive chin and forehead that forces you to stretch for everything.

Absolutely agree on the pricing side. It is market dynamics though. That is what people are willing to pay.

We also use our phones for everything. You can take it anywhere and everywhere and use it all day. Notebooks are not as ubiquitous in the same usage scenarios. We pay for the convenience, but also the price of getting the same sort of functionality in a far smaller package (costs more to do that).

The unboring Android. Own it in less than a month.

Smartphones have hit a plateau, when they started coming out they were exciting because it was a new thing, specs started improving allowing for more features, now they do so much that is hard to find new things to add.

Google is developing Android for Work and the beta version is now free. I think they come close to the optimized version of Android OS and now focusing on enterprise's function. If you pay attention to Chrome OS, another OS from Google, you would see it have some progress recently. Maybe Android OS is not Google's priority anymore, I guess so.

So sick and tired of these tiny little screens made for ballerina fingers. Been using iphone 4,5,6,7 for years now.

Finally broke down and ordered my first phablet last night. A nexus 6p. God help me I'm taking the plunge. I was actually a bit annoyed to find out that the nexus 6 had a bigger screen than the 6p. :bleh:

Would have recommended something with a better processor for the sake of longevity, but the 6p is a good phone otherwise :)

The plus phones on the iPhone side are pretty solid and give fantastic battery life to boot.

That said, a Nexus/Pixel phone is a solid purchase and you should have at least another couple of Android OS updates to go (typically supported through at least 3 years, plus you can always find ROMs :D )

Dude this thing is awesome. I'm in love with it already. I can't believe I lived without a big screen on a phone for this long. What a waste of 10 years.
