AMD Polaris architecture for Arctic Islands / Radeon 400 series GPUs

Not really. It's just that...picture is just an event picture? I guess? Even it didn't get me pay attention at all. All I see is just AMD announced another event. That's all.
Yep it didn't get my attention as well, just like the Vega milestone thingy. Whatever milestone they achieve, or they just randomly put some tweets to keep the fans happy.

My brother just paid 200 dollars for a 960 he said it was a 970 on the phone and he could of gotten my 290 for free. He brought all his stuff over today and I was like wait this is a 960 dude. Needless to say I am blown away by the fact he spent 200 bucks when he could of gotten a 480...

Sounds like he really got ripped off.

I have a friend who bought a 970 only a week before the 480 came out. Probably not quite as bad as spending $200 on a 960, but hardly ideal timing either.

Not to mention how cheap is RX 470 which is about $179 that will be also faster than GTX 960 since it's supposed to be R9 290 performance.

I am thinking to get a 970 or 1060 ... The point for Nvidia is it pairs with old CPU (AMD) better than AMD ...

In my country there is 970 Strix for 270$ and the cheapest 1060 is 350$ ...I have a FX 8370 i may have to buy strategically.Maybe or maybe not i may change the rig sometimes in future...Fury and RX480 feels more happy with intel i5 rigs.Depending on your friend cpu and money the 970 may not have been so blindly bought but this depends entirely on the difference between 970 and 1060...

Well, it definitely was a blindly bought since, as I understand it, it was a full upgrade.

Regarding the CPU, I remember reading that AMD cards did worse with slower CPUs, but that was probably in DX11. Are you sure the discrepancy remains in DX12, because the DX11 era is coming to a close pretty soon.

Get a 980 if you can't find a 1060 at a decent price.

thx for the tip..In hunting the 1060 stocks / prices i forgot about 980

Searching around actually the 980ti on second hand seems a better choice...Some people are really desperate for selling the 980ti.There are cards as low as 430$.The price is the same as a new fury here in EU

GTX 980Ti 2nd hand price and brand new drops drastically at my place as well, it drops to GTX970 prices. I can even bought 2nd hand 980Ti Classified for around the same price as I bought my sold GTX 970 TwinFrozr

1 game in DX11 ... The trend is rx 480 is equal or faster than gtx 980 in Vulkan and DX12..On the other hand is kinda unfair comparasion.
Rx480 is in a different class than gtx 980

I'm fully aware of where the Polaris sits. My reply was tongue in cheek...
