AMD Polaris architecture for Arctic Islands / Radeon 400 series GPUs

The cards actually stack up pretty similar to the whole AMD vs Nvidia line-up. In DX12 the RX480 is generally faster. In DX11 the 1060 is generally a bit faster (except in bad AMD games, where even the Fury X is slower than it sometimes  ).

Fury X is only better when run at higher resolution than 1080p. AMD high-end cards usually always better at higher res than 1080p. How usual it is.

Another thing I noticed also, is that the 480 is more future proof than 1060
because even in DX11, RX 480 closes that minute gap at 1440P so it seems
to digest larger frames better, or at least, ramp better with higher res...

Now, the elephant in the room: How will 1060 stocks be?
I am thinking another paper launch :bleh:

What is this muscle that you talk about. I still see Fury X getting destroyed in most benches unless you put it against a stock 980 Ti where it sometimes matches a 980 Ti; I believe the only person who is using a 980 Ti at those speeds is a complete ****ing moron!

FuryX performs quite well in DX12 and absolutely amazing in Vulkan. Skynet said "going forward" for a reason.

The GCN architecture is just looking better and better for the new APIs. It must be weird for the 290/X guys who have been wanting to upgrade for years.

Hardocp gave a honest review wow. Im surprised to see RX 480 beat the 1060 in some dx 11 games at TPU. And if any of the past 6 years or so is indicative the 480 will move ahead of the 1060 by about 20% over time.

Very. Im on a 290 that has gotten a massive boost in perf with the new apis. But makes little sense to put a sidegrade in this old rig. I do think the 480 will be a good stop gap for the zen rig late this year or next...

Man I used to build rigs every year or 2 now its been since 2009 since the last one. The itch has become a full blown rash.

I believe it has become plainly obvious that AMDs architecture is built to age well and provide great performance in DX12/Vulkan.

I would say the performance at higher res compared to the 1060 is largely because of the bigger memory bus of the 480. Maybe a few other factors.

Wouldn't be surprised if launch of 1060 was rushed to steal AMD's thunder a bit. No doubt, even with limited stocks, it will take some wind out of AMD's sails.

[H] is a lot of things... Actually no, KYLE is a lot of things, but their hardware reviews have been spot on for ages. Their style of reviewing is the only reason I still read over there.

Anywhooo, back on topic. Looking at the 1060 reviews I now feel more comfortable going with a 3rd party 480 8GB.
Same. Well I wanted to buy a GTX1080 but impossible to find locally, online might be able to find one but $1100 Canadian.

My 290X's have been ridiculous they just keep getting better these stupid things have moved up a whole tier compared to Nvidia (or better). This is silly good value and I also mined with them for over a year! This actually hurts AMD these things are too good.

That is a good point, and probably why Partner Boards are taking so long, so to steal some thunder back :)

This without a doubt this.......My next upgrade is to look forward to DX12 and / or Vulkan for the next 3 years or so, until another fab process shrink happens ( likely to the 10 nm one ).

So with me going for a 3 card setup and them being the higher end parts ( Vega 10's ), worrying about DX11 performance in current games is pretty much moot since even if Big pascal does better still in DX11, having 3 high end GCN cards working together is still going to provide a crazy amount of speed, in this less than ideal situation.

What they might have is the lead in DX12 and Vulkan, and games within the next 3 years will obviously be more demanding than anything now, so that's when that extra performance becomes more useful.

The funny thing is if you want 3 gpus the most compatible way is with AMD...I suppose i DX12 and Vulkan you can put 3 nvidia gpus bypassing nvidia limitations...

Why HELLO THERE!

RX 490?

Ya its the old logo... pretty big disappoint.

Why do that... You're creating false hype at a time when people are paying attention.

Not really. It's just that...picture is just an event picture? I guess? Even it didn't get me pay attention at all. All I see is just AMD announced another event. That's all.
