  • FreeSync may stay enabled while on desktop causing flickering.
  • Grand Theft Auto V™ may experience an application hang after loading story mode.
  • DiRT™ Rally rain drops may flicker when using high or ultra in game settings.
  • DOOM™ may experience a hang on game exit in some limited AMD PowerXpress configurations.
  • Total War™: Warhammer may experience negative AMD CrossFire scaling on some Radeon RX 400 series configurations.

Radeon Software Crimson Edition 16.9.1 Driver Version 16.40.2011

Good find!

Did anybody experience this issue as I haven't heard of it before...(Some Radeon RX 400 series graphics products may experience high GPU usage when resuming from sleep)?

"FreeSync may stay enabled while on desktop causing flickering."

At least they're admitting to it this time. Come on this needs to get fixed and quick. It's a USP for AMD and they're fu****g it up. They should hang their heads in shame. I guess this is what happens when you make staff redundant who were actually doing a good job but the head bean counter needed to lose staff quick to make the numbers better. Should have sacked the whole board of directors that would have saved more money

Won't be touching these with a bargepole.

Very nice boost in perf for Deus Ex MD. Ultra 1080p no msaa

16.8.3

DX11 - 44.85 / 27.25 / 61.75
DX12 - 44.45 / 28.60 / 60.35

16.9.1

DX11 - 48.30 / 37.40 / 63.70
DX12 - 47.40 / 34.95 / 60.60

16.8.3 vs 16.9.1

DX11 - +7.7% / +37% / +3.2%
DX12 - +6.6% / +22% / +0.4%

I'll run some benchmarks for other games in 12hrs or so

Nice. But I still having performance issue even with DX12...I'm not sure what's going on...but I'll try to re-test on High present instead of very high present.

DX12 in Deus Ex was pretty disappointment since I knew it because it's not done right well. So I'll have to play other games.

Some more benchies. 16.9.1 versus 16.8.2

Batman Arkham Knight +4.2%
RoTTR +2.0%
The Division +1.5%
Metro Last Light +1.1%

RoTTR (dx12) +0.1% (aka no change)

Far Cry Primal -1.0%

Yes, I ran into it many times, with both RX 480 and RX 470. After resuming from sleep, GPU would be stuck at 100% activity and highest GPU clocks. Since the load wasn't actually there, but the clocks (both mem and core) were high, the card would get warm and the fan will continuously run. Restarting the PC would bring things back to normal.

It's fixed in 16.9.1.

I posted in wrong thread. Belongs here. :)

I updated this morning and I had to reboot several times. I was stuck in booting with the endless circle of death (what I call the spinning dots that spin in a circle on boo lol). Finally after 3 boots it came up. I haven't tested any performance as I had to get to work. Just wanted to note this possible bug.

Deus Ex MD - 16.8.3 DX 12 no issue - with 16.9.1 it crashes when opening in 1440p full screen. Works fine at 4K, no crashes except performance is not enough. Go to 1440p and it crashes. Start in window mode and then go full screen 1440p will work but has slow loading issues.

I will Just wait for a few patches and maybe next driver before I start this game in DX 12.

DX12 isn't helping performance for either vendor. Does it work in DX11? The 16.9.1 drivers gave a hefty boost in DX11 as well, so if you can get it to work in DX11, then just play it in DX11.

DX12 is actually performing worse than DX11 in almost every bench I've seen.

I may do that. Now the 1070 with the fX 9590 actually gets a performance boost with DX 12 - that is with the built in benchmark. It is very distinct. Minimum frame rate goes up significantly and average goes up 2 fps at 1440p.

The Nano and 1070 perform virtually identical at 1440p with a slight edge going to the Nano. So looks like the Nano may get a play through on this game since it has a FreeSync monitor. The 1070 at 3440x1440p is too slow (SLI would be needed here).

dloading now.
They are newer, at least the win764 version.

Previous version, file name:
non-whql-win7-64bit-radeon-software-crimson-16.9.1-sep7

Current version, file name:
whql-win7-64bit-radeon-software-crimson-16.9.1-sep13

EDIT: launching installer and everything is reported as 'already installed'
