The future of DCS World by Eagle Dynamics

I recently treated myself to a TrackIR and it is probably the single most immersive piece of hardware I've got.

Aside from the obvious gaming advantage to sims, the ones with true virtual cockpits are such a joy to use. Even the little elements of movement like leaning over the side to look down add so much to your awareness and feeling of interaction with the world.

They're not cheap but I wish I had picked up the TrackIR much sooner because it has done so much to improve both my enjoyment and my performance in sims.

Do you know a good place to purchase one? And any advice on which one to get?

CHeck me out in multiplayer braw

Man I really need to get FC3. The upgraded cockpit models over FC2 are worth the price alone and now with the new SU-25 and SU-27 cockpit models the list is almost complete. Do you know if the Mig-29 ever received a new cockpit?

no there's no new cockpit for mig-29, also that there is no plan from ED or 3rd party to build a separate DCS mig-29 for that matter.

my biggest problem with FC3 is that it requires the original Lock on, and AFAIK it used starforce? moreover it sold outside ED shop.... meh...

with all the reputation of DCS, I wonder why don't they just ditch the LOMAC name and sell FC3 as a completely new game, especially that it now priced just like normal new game.

You can get it from their website ;

http://www.naturalpoint.com/trackir/

or through Amazon. I can't remember which specific store I bought mine from but they were a pain in the ass; claimed to have it in stock when it was on back order, kept promising it was about to come in, failing to return calls and then when I told them to cancel the order I got it a couple of days later but with a shipping invoice from a different retailer! Still, it arrived and thats what counts.

As for which, I've got the TrackIR 5 with the Pro clip. Most games work fine without the pro clip but for the full six degrees of freedom some require it. It really makes a huge difference. Leaning in for a closer look at an MFD in Falcon or leaning out the window to reverse in Euro Truck Simulator 2.

Awesome video. I personally like the Russian fighters and am stoked they redid the SU-27 cockpit. I really need to pick up FC3. IMO the mig us the funnest one to fly.

I used to like he mig the most

+ Fastest, smallest, most nimble
+ IR capabiltiy (IR gives no warning whatsoever to enemy, and you don't need to turn your radar , but range is also limited)
+ Radar is much easier to work with than the F15
+ RWS (radar warning system) is tons better, simpler and more effective than the F15's crappy RWR.

- Fuel capacity (it's really a factor with the Mig :-(
- Payload capacity (only 4 medium range missiles as opposed to 8 on the F-15)
- No TWS mode (F15 can track and engage multiple targets at once, a HUGE plus, TWS mode also gives NO warning to enemy about your missile launch, untill the missile goes active,by then it's usually too late for enemy)

That new F-15 pit is beautiful, the old cartoonish one was the worst in LOMACs. Will buy FC3, would buy it no matter what though just to support ED.

It's like..

if I can find someone with the profile for the F-15 already setup for the X-52, then I would consider buying it.

I used to have this awesome profile but I lost it. Ever since then, haven't been able to get back into LOMAC. It's too time consuming to sit there and make my own profile.

What's with these enormous profiles ...

Do you really need to map "gear down" to your flight stick ?

Flight controls are automatic, no need to set them up.

Then, all that's left is your radar (slew up/down) that stuff , i do that with the in game key assignment function .

Throttle works automatically to .

Track-Ir works automatically to .

Takes 5 minutes

Yep I just finished redoing my F15 profile took 10 minutes. Left most of the stuff alone and just did the radar stuff all to my hat stick with modifiers.

I think in the new patch they gave the mig or the 27 TWS mode now. Or some kind of dual tracking system. Also you pretty much nailed those plus and minuses. I just love the vertical climb capabilites in the mig I am flying the F-15 now and feel like I'm in a 737. The mig cruised at 700 easy this thing has trouble kicking it past 500.

I had been playing on game avionics mode for ever and have recently started playing on realism mode. Before I auto locked a target and fired a missile, now I actually have to use the instruments and it adds a whole new element to the game.

:lol::lol::lol: you've been fooled.

russian jets use metric measurement system while american use knots :p

700 kph = +- 378 knots :D

:bleh: you know I thought about that but figured it was something else. luls. the f15 is so nice compared to the russian fighters. I need fc3 asap.

Put 3 extra fuel tanks on the F-15 and you can fly at 60.000 feet on full afterburner forever :d

(it is needed at that altitude to :)

And look some tutorials on the radar, always keep in mind that your radar field is a cone .

Part 1 :
[yt]nOhT0lVDLQA[/yt]

I watched both of those videos and for some reason half the time nothing ever appears on my radar until im way to close to engage with aim 120s and any reasonable distance. I am turning on my radar and then changing my scanning sectors and still nothing. it worked agaisnt mig 29s but when flying the air to air tutorial mission I got nothing with the bvr mode.

actually I found that the best radar tutorial for anyone new to modern combat flight sim is the tutorial done by molnibalage83 for freefalcon5

here it is, this explain the basic concept to understand modern american A/A radar.

[yt]E4klLDqCGFs[/yt]

true, that was based on APG-66 from the older F-16, and that the tutorial is for a more detailed sim than Lock On series but the concept explained there is applicable to Lock On and any other modern combat flight sim for american fighters pre AESA radars.

that, and reading manuals and learning from various other sims like Falcon or Jane's F-18 will certainly help you :D

The radar has 3 different scanning modes . (don't mean "tws" or "stt" that are mentioned in the video)

1 for targets that are flying away from you
1 for targets flying towards you
1 "medium" , which is good for both, but has limited range (40 miles or so)

Then , the radar also is kind of blind for targets that are going sideways , and targets that are going below 100 knots air speed. (heli's for instance are really hard to get on your radar)

Also, the radar does 3 sweeps everytime, so don't change sectors too fast. Give it a second or two to find any potential targets.

edit* One important thing, are you sure you're not scanning at the max 20 miles range ? If you slew up the target designator to up and keep pressing, the max radar scan zone(shown on screen) will change to 40, then 80, then 160 . You can also use + and - keys on keybaord if you prefer.
(check @ 1:55 in the video, set that to 40 )

80 and 160 are useless, except maybe for huge planes, 40 is best i find.

I think this may have been my problem. I don't think I've even set a button to that function. Cause I did a test in the editor with me in the f-15 and a mig 29 flying away from me at the same altitude and just turning the radar on he showed up.

I'll tell you though actually having to use the radar functions to target bogies is awesome, the game avionics mode is alright for fun, but I like the challenge of actually using the instruments. Although I do miss my map.
