Starfield - futuristic space exploration sci-fi RPG from Bethesda

Not sure if this is a tongue-in-cheek post. They're outlier reviews for sure. The overwhelming majority have given it 8's, 9's and 10's.

OpenCritic and Metacritic averages sitting at 87-88.

It is.

And TBH, I would still play the shit out of a bethesda 7/10 title as long as long as it is fun to explore the world.

i have not played it, but from everything ive seen in footage (people playing the game), the game looks above average (7), and nothing more. It already looks aged, the aestheics just look like skyrim in space lighting. Sometimes the models while high poly, look worse than mods for skyrim. The gameplay seems decent but not good enough to premote the game itself. The space stuff is mostly missing, its just some flying in ships in space a bit, or fast travelling, the rest is just scifi skyrim. Its looks like it should be fun to play for sure, but i'd say its a 6-7 for sure. I watched a bunch or reviews as well, and the disconnect between their footage and what they were saying is pretty stark.

Im sure there is more im not seeeing, so the 80 something metacritic is probably deserved, but the 9s and 10s in review seem completely wrong.

Game is pretty great. Basically Fallout 4 in space or No Man's Skyrim. Quite a few good faction quests. Some great locations to visit. There is something unbelievably cool about creating your own spaceship, that you can walk around in, and then docking with a space station and seeing your ship out the window. The procedural planet stuff is okay but don't expect to do that for 100s of hours until modders get their hands on it.

It looks decent, and sometimes great, but there is definitely some old school gamebyro flavor at times. Relatively bug free. Only two minor quests broke, one fixed itself after another quest, the other got more broke. Right now it's mid to high 80s score from me. But I haven't finished it yet and still have a handful of side quests to wrap up (I've had early access for over a week)

Meh. Does not look interesting or unique enough to hold my interest for more than a few hours. Pass.

How is the OMGPERFORMANCE? I am going to wait till 6th to get my hands on this POS.

Wow, that is a massive difference in FPS. Don't tell me this was done at 1080P because that would be stupid thing to do.

That can't be right. Even if the Inception patch is in there, something else is going on.

They did cap the xbox version at 30 because of cpu limitations, and it is using something that is in the neighborhood of a ryzen 5 3600, so you will need a beefy cpu if you want those frames.

Not a bad game imo, basically Fallout in space, but my gosh it looks washed out. No HDR support, and blacks that are super raised so it just looks dull and grey. Very odd.

One thing that starfield needs is proper maps for the cities, they are large enough to have their own map instead of that crappy world map.

Also, the UI in general is pretty bad, it must get pretty annoying to navigate on gamepads where you don't have access to all of the hotkeys, so I get why some reviewers complained about that.

So.. many.. loading screens and useless needless repetitive animations.

They really need to change engines for their next installment, finally.

Optimization guide from HUB, also some FSR 2 critique.

I think it is fair to say that FSR isn't ready to be the sole upscaler for a game, as it can only sort of hang with DLSS at 4k.

How's it going with trying reshades from Nexus or from any source to improve the washed out graphics issues reported in numerous forums lately? Maybe in a couple months some breakthrough in the problem will come about with reshades and then of course developer patches working together with AMD and Nvidia driver updates.

It all sounds pretty interesting to see how it will pan out to give players the graphics they want. Like a detailed set of options to tweak the hdr look, or ray tracing look and others. Or just to fix the existing ones.

I found a mod that replaces the washed out filters with neutral/blank ones, seems to do the trick. I wasn't really getting the results I wanted with Reshade - one scene would look great while others look worse.

This is a major gripe of mine.. Far too many loading screens and no atmospheric flight..
