Pockemon Go

Pokémon Go will end support for older iOS and Android phones in October

Leaving Lollipop and iOS 11 behind, as well as the iPhone 5S and 6

If you still play Pokémon Go on a smartphone or tablet running Android 5.0 “Lollipop” or iOS 10 or 11, you’ll no longer be able to access the game when Niantic pushes an update in mid-October. The Pokémon Go Twitter account confirmed that two popular older phones also won’t make the cut: the iPhone 5S and iPhone 6 are being left behind, despite the fact both phones can be upgraded to run iOS 12.

“iPhone 5S and 6 have just 1 GB of RAM, and we don’t want to hold back development and implementation of features for the vast majority of players who have more robust phones,” Niantic tells The Verge.

All things considered, the performance on those devices probably wasn’t great. Pokémon Go might not be as demanding as some other titles, but it relies heavily on your phone’s cameras, GPS tracking, and general chops to keep up with its 3D visuals, and can be quite a drain on an aging phone battery. But while Niantic tells The Verge that this change will only impact “a very small percentage of daily active players,” it’s still going to be a loss for those around the globe who don’t want to — or can’t — upgrade their phones.

If you have a flagship or midrange iPhone or Android handset from the past few years, you don’t need to worry. It’s those with much older or more affordable devices who might have to.

In an upcoming update to Pokémon GO in October, we will end support for Android 5, iOS 10, and iOS 11, as well as iPhone 5s and iPhone 6 devices. Trainers with devices not specifically listed here will not be affected and don’t need to take any action.

Pokémon Go is still incredibly popular: Last we heard from Niantic Labs, it said 2019 was its most lucrative year since the augmented reality game launched. And according to data from Sensor Tower, a mobile game and app analytics firm, the game’s popularity didn’t see a dip during the COVID-19 pandemic. In fact, it grew, seeing more than $254 million in revenue in Q2 2020 — nearly a 38-percent revenue boost compared to the previous quarter. During the COVID-19 pandemic and the many stay-at-home orders it spurred, people couldn’t stop catching Pokémon. This year’s Pokémon Go Fest was the biggest yet, with players catching nearly a billion of the digital creatures. Niantic also smartly made the game easier to play indoors.

Losing these devices probably won’t make a huge impact on Niantic’s user base. But if you’re an avid Pokémon Go player with an outdated phone, you might be affected, so it’s good to have a little lead time before October.

just for shits 'n giggles i tried the rating of the pokemons. Either i don't understand the logic behind it or it's kinda messed up. For example: I've got 2 rihorns, almost the same WP (1300 / 1200). Now the first one gets this rating: Smaller than normal, 1 Star, ATT/DEF 1,5/3, KP almost full. But now the strange thing, the second one gets this: colossal, almost an anomaly, no star, all stats at 1/3.

So the one who gets called smaller than usual has better stats than the colossal? That means it doesn't matters what she says, the only important things are the pure stats? Sounds strange

i didnt even know the sizes change. i just appraise and look for the stars. thats what most people do afaik. i dont think the size matters.the cp doesnt matter as much either since you can just power them up easily.

but definitely catch all the rhyhorns you can. their final evolution, rhyperior, is really useful against some raid guys, such as the current one, heatran. or even just leaving in gyms. people see him and it is an intimidation factor.

my process is catch, appraise, if 2 star or even not a good 3 star i transfer them. if a good 3 star i keep. some people keep everything because there are special days when transferring a pokemon gives extra candy, but i cant be bothered to do that

i dont know exactly how the IVs (attack defense stamina) affect battling, i just know you want the high three stars :D i think better defense makes you take less damage when someone is fighting you in a gym or in a raid.

3 stars are really rare. As for rhyperior, i already have him (it?). I have to admit i normally would keep the ones with high wp, seems that was not the best way :)

what's up with that mega-evos? Can you even use them for raids? Also getting invites for low level raids all the time, won't spend any raid-passes on that stuff though. Dunno what's the point of inviting other people to 2-3 star raids. Also just learned that there are double-hearts for the companions, jesus christ....how long will that take?

man, i f***ing hate to get invited to a raid just to see people leaving the raid 3 seconds before the battle starts. WTF is wrong with people lately? Also no luck getting Giratina, hit him with 12 excellent throws and the f***er still escaped ....

Got one shiny alolan meowth during yesterdays event. I did all 20 pages of tasks , what a grind.

seriously, wtf, again 15 excellent throws (curve balls) and the f***er again escaped. You gotta be kiddin me.....

next time you are throwing 6-10+ inna row excellent and nothing is sticking, try a nice/great throw or a no-name throw. i find sometimes throwing a different one helps. no guarantees but it happens enough for me to see a small pattern maybe.

that might be actually a "thing", because i had the same "luck" again (almost uninstalled this &%%"§!§"%). Tried with a different boss, almost the same until i threw a not even "good" without aiming and without any berries because fu and i caught the mofo. Something's very very wrong with this game, sometimes
