HDTV Wonder Discussion

Only solution I have ever found for this...

Only solution I have ever found for this...

Unfornately the only solution I have ever found to this problem is remove everything ATI, and I mean everything ATI. This includes cleaning up the Registry.

Driver Cleaner from driverheaven.net is a big help with removing everything ATI as well.

With the reboots you should be able to do the complete cleanup and reinstall in about 45 minutes.

Using Export function to convert recorded shows?

Using Export function to convert recorded shows?

For whatever reason, ATI MMC has recorded my files as .VCR files instead of .MPG files. So, using ATI's Export tool, I try and convert them. Only, I lose the aspect ratio. I have shows recorded in 1080i and 720p, but the maximum resolution I can use for conversion is 720x480. After converting, the videos look horrible. Anyone know a way around this? I'm using MMC version 9.15 Thanks, Fenixgoon

UNLESS 9.15 is different, there USED TO be a HiDEF format you need to pick... look again... sort them by output size and you'll see

there's HD-mpeg2, but that's 352x480... DVD-high is the highest resolution (720x480)... ok, i just converted it using HD-mpeg2 and it works. me = highly confused. thanks for the advice though, as it obviously worked :)

deleting VCR video files

deleting VCR video files

MMC has accumulated a large amount of .VCR files from the time-shifting feature, so much that I can't record anything on my spare HDD anymore. Is there any way to eliminate these files without screwing up MMC? Last time I deleted them all and had to reinstall everything (wasn't much fun:))

Thanks!

Fenixgoon

YES -- unhide your system files and hidden files. Then goto the drive you're recording them to and the MMC\<your name> directory. Better yet... delete the entite MMC directory on the drive you're writing the files to. ALL the .vcr files, tmp files and all will be gone. MMC will recreate the directory next time you open the app.

TVW 650 back on market??

TVW 650 back on market??

Has the ATi TV Wonder 650 been put back up on market? Just browsing through the green-suit-and-tie that the new ati.amd.com website has been wearing, I noticed that the previously-recalled item was back on stock. Anyone tried purchasing it? Google hits all the previews and recall news when looking up search sales, except for the new ati.amd.com site.

Can someone tell me how to re scan for dtv channels? When the scan was done I only scanned for cable channels. The manual says to click on Multimedia Center Configuration and then "display" tab but I don't see the "display" tab.

You can use the autoscan button.

You can also manually add stations using the add/del buttons on the top right.

Windows cannot load profile

Windows cannot load profile

At windows login, error "Windows cannot load locally stored profile" with HDTV Wonder card installed. With HDTV Wonder card removed from PC login is normal.
I have removed all instances of software installed to support HDTV Wonder card that are in windows un-install eg. Decoder, DAO.
How can I remove remaining registry entry's so that I can log into windows with HDTV Wonder card installed?
Any help would be appreciated.

Alright guys I have a problem. I Have two HDTV Wonder cards. When one card is installed everything work as well as it's expected to.(Not trying to dis ati but there software is lacking) When I install the second tuner it acts like I never installed any of the drivers. I get this error.

"Unable to start TV

The TV player failed to initialize.

Check the Windows Device Manager to ensure that the correct
video driver has been installed and is working properly before
attempting to restart TV."

Is there a known issue with multiple HDTV Wonder cards? Has any one gotten this setup to work? Do I need hacked drivers? Any help is appreciated.

I have a suspicion that MMC might barf on this, but you never know.

Did you use the configuration application to setup TV? Have you tried third-party software?

The MMC config only sees one analog tuner and one digital tuner. Most of the other programs I tried saw that there was two tuners but they didn't work either. WatchHDTV (ver 1.923) worked the best. With WatchHDTV I could choose which tuner on the digital tuner tab of the config menu. At least the tuner shows up twice on the list with the same name. I can change the channel without the program freezing up on me unlike everything else. But there is no picture or sound, just a black screen. I know the channel is changing because of the signal strength changing for different channels and remembering about what the signal stregth was when it works with only one tuner. I have also tired a new install of windows on a different partition with both tuners already installed and I get the same problem. At first I thought it might be an IRQ conflict but they checked out fine, they were different numbers. If anyone needs more information just ask.

Stuttering of multi media video or audio

Stuttering of multi media video or audio

ok. This post is for folks who have an x2 64 bit AMD computer with XP SP2 32bit installed only.
This post addresses stutter (studder) or choppy video or sound, no audio, no sound, dropped audio - key words in case someone is doing a search.

Apparently there is a problem with XP SP2 and these AMD processors. I could not get my HDTV Wonder card to work without problems (video would start properly for about 20 seconds, then studder, video would get choppy and then stay that way) until these fixes were applied. The MS link describes whats going on - greek to me. At first I just did the "/usepmtimer" fix in boot.ini and that fixed the Wonder card problems. However, I thought I would go ahead and implement all the fixes at once...do the complete fix. If you do this, do GARs complete fix (2nd link below) step by step. Also a few posts up in GARs link is a Zipped Registry fix for implementing the Hotfix that works perfectly...if you don't want to do it manually - I still checked my DWord to make sure it was set to 1. BTW Windows update will not ID your computer for this update, its something you have to do manually.

My system AMD 64 4400+ X2, ASUS 8VA MB, 2 gig 4400 DDR, XP SP2, ATI 9600 Pro, primary drive is IDE100. Used ATI 9600 universal WDM and installed ATI Decoder drivers only. I'm using WatchHDTV. Viewing is rock solid. CPU use is 8-10% viewing with 400 meg memory use. BTW Nero 7 enhanced will accept video file output from WatchHDTV and will transcode and burn to DVD in one step.

NEED HELP - HDTV tuner, which free to air HD channels can I record?

NEED HELP - HDTV tuner, which free to air HD channels can I record?

I'm sorry if this is redundant and if my question has been answered elsewhere, but I've been sorting through these threads and still have a question.

I want to get one of the ATI HDTV tuners (probably HDTV Wonder instead of TV Wonder 650) but I just found out that the ONLY channels that you can record in HD on the tuner are the free to air channels and not the HD channels that you pay for through your TV service provider.

We have an HD package through Dish Network, our satellite provider. When it was first hooked up we only received a few (maybe 6 or so) HD channels. We have a huge old-school 8 foot antenna on our roof. My boyfriend went up there and wired the dish on the roof to the antenna and we got about 10 more HD channels. We live in the center of Los Angeles, so I'm assuming we get decent reception as compared to other rural, remote locations.

1. Does anyone know which channels will come through and will be recorded in HD on the tuner? In other words, is there any way to know which channels I get free to air vs. pay?

2. Is there ANY way to be able to record to the tuner the HD channels that we get through Dish Network?

Part of the reason we want this tuner is to be able to record in HD, but it doesn't seem like this is a fully functioning HD recorder.

Thank you!!!!

Go here:

http://www.antennaweb.org/aw/welcome.aspx

Put in you zipcode and/or full address and you will see all the stations as well as distance.

NOTE: You will not see the sub stations with this tool.
PBS here for example has four stations, I understand LA has more!
PBS 9-1 is HD
PBS 9-2 is Kids
PBS 9-3 is the regular PBS channel feed
PBS 9-4 is yet another PBS station

I'm sorry if this is redundant and if my question has been answered elsewhere, but I've been sorting through these threads and still have a question.

Problem with my HDTV Wonder

Problem with my HDTV Wonder

I am able to record in hi-def off the over the air channels, but if i record through my cable box with either the coaxil or s-video cable after 15 seconds or so the video starts to become choppy and skip , while the audio remains smooth. I tried uninstalling everything ati and then installed the newest version of mmc. that did not help. I have an Audigy 2 ZS. and also use a geforce 7600gs. I am not sure if those might be affecting the recording , but any ideas would be appreciated. thanks
