GPUs just got more expensive

Yeah, used GPUs from 2-3 years ago are going for more than original MSRP.

If I go back 4 years, I used to lol so hard at those buying 1080ti cards. It turns out those were the best cards ever made. Best value. 4 years of gaming enjoyment and they could of resold them for at least 2/3 the original price they paid for them.

But ya, some cards from a few years ago going for MSRP or above.

its nuts, i just looked at kijiji and my 2080 is still going for the 850-900

id lose $75 after 2 years of use

I has a used 1080Ti. Will accept no offer below $870 CAD + KAC shipping. ($500) :)

I have spoken.

Just on a whim I decided to drop by Microcenter this morning. Not for a gpu, but for a ground loop noise isolator. Everything looked normal until I reached the parking lot. Must have been 30'ish people waiting in line, in 12 degree temps for a chance at a gpu I'm reckoning? Decided to just head back home and purchase the isolator online. It doesn't elicit anger anymore, simply sadness at how things are now  . I have the money, I could purchase a 3080/90 for whatever price it was available at. I just simply refuse to be an enabler of this craziness.

3090s are available a lot easier than 3080s from what I've seen.

Doesn't make sense since Microcenters don't get deliveries on Sundays, unless they had some special delivery coming in that people found out about.

Their website had the evga 3080's listed as in stock, but limited quantity when I checked while in the parking lot

Holy **** nuggets. Local NJ microcenter has NOTHING listed beyond a 1050ti for $200!!!

My RX470 is nearly twice what it cost me in June 2020!!!!

Wow, this situation is AWFUL. Been trying to help my brother get something new for himself.... all is **** lol.

Even gaming laptops are being scalped now...

If you really need something now, you need to look at the used market. You can get RX 470s and some RX 570s for reasonable-ish prices on eBay. The cheaper you go the less you're being ripped off in absolute terms, since the cards are starting from a low base price.

RX 580 and above the prices are just ridiculous.

The RX 580 is kind of what I'd be steering my brother towards, as he really only plays a couple of mulitiplayer games like Deep Rock Galatic and Sea of Thieves. My RX 470 handles them pretty well but not 60fps 100% of the time....

RX470 prices are still ok, 570 a little higher. I have no doubt that the graphics/compute starved masses are coming for them next.

My little R9 Fury is handling fine and nets around 60ish FPS at the super ultrawide resolution of 3840x1080p around med/high in most things. So the RX580 should handle regular 1920x1080p gaming just fine at around high detail settings @ 60fps without issue as it's around the same performance level, but with more memory.

New stuff just around the corner for mid-tier. But who knows what pricing is going to be like :(

P.S. Talk about legs though. The RX580 is how old? And the GCN tech behind it even older. Say what you will, but man did that fine wine thing played out if you gamed at 1080p.

The Chinese were just waiting for the laptops to start having the 3000 series cards in them. A recent article showed a miner with 100's of them

Chinese GPU miners reportedly bulk buying Nvidia laptops to mine Ether

The tweets indicate a deal may have been struck between either retailer, distributor or laptop manufacturer and the mining entity for a bulk order, per WCCTech’s report.

Welp lol.

If crypto keeps going up...... I hear Intel Xe graphics are a good improvement for gaming! : ) : ) : ) : ) :) :O : | :\ : ( ; (

I have friends who mine so.... I mean I don't hate them personally.

But mining so far has been a MASSIVE drain on natural resources for the benefit of an extraordinarily few people... Yes I know eventually new bitcoins will not be mined, just right now its a shitburg of a carbon emitting waste that benefits nearly no one.

Distant second is people missing out on GPUs but that has more than one cause other than unchecked greed.
