If you were upset about miners impacting demand for the already-short-in-supply graphics cards, brace yourself for today's news: China tariff exemptions that expired with the new year (via New York Times) mean that, among other products, GPU pricing will increase significantly (as noted on Reddit).

So far, Asus has already confirmed it needs to raise GPU and motherboard prices due to logistical complications and import tariffs, and other GPU vendors, including Zotac, MSI, EVGA, and Gigabyte, are likely to follow suit, or are already doing so silently. In fact, pricing on several families of third-party GPUs from those GPU makers has gone up in the last few days.

Juan Jose Guerrero III, Technical Marketing Manager at Asus, explained the following:

"Update regarding MSRP pricing for ASUS components in 2021.

This update applies to graphics cards and motherboards*

We have an announcement in regards to MSRP price changes that are effective in early 2021 for our award-winning series of graphic cards and motherboards. Our new MSRP reflects increases in cost for components. operating costs, and logistical activities plus a continuation of import tariffs. We worked closely with our supply and logistic partners to minimize price increases. ASUS greatly appreciates your continued business and support as we navigate through this time of unprecedented market change.

*additional models may see an increase as we moved further into Q1."

Tariffs Range from 7.5% to 25%, and More Than Just GPUs Will Be Affected

Glad I got mine when I did...

Does this mean we actually see some GPUs in the U.K.?

Like hen's teeth over here.

Same in Canada. I can only order online for delivery. I don't have a car and I work graveyard shift so I can't get to any stores during their opening hours even if they actually had any.

Newegg already increased all their prices. An ASUS TUF OC is now $859.

TSMC is supposedly set to start building a chip manufacturing plant in Arizona this year. Won't be finished until 2024, but when finished should alleviate situations like these at least somewhat, and as a bonus Bill can see his next Nvidia chip being built in real time.

Damn!! Prices in USD are the same # as in CAD almost.
Does anyone know if Canada and other countries will make up a reason to increase prices up to 25% as well?

"We decided to start routing all pc components through the USA"?
"Due to the great flood we have to circumvent the globe and ship thru the US" ?

I wonder if this means Gigabyte will be more favorably priced? Unlike the other AIBs they're building out of Taiwan, which does not count as China (nor should it) in terms of tarriffs.

The good news is your old cards are worth more!

just got £390 for a GTX 1080Ti
and £240 for a GTX 980Ti

Both sold on E-bay after no one took me up on an offer of £260 for the 1080ti and £120 for the 980ti on facebook or local forums.

I usually give my old card away to friends or family.

Depends on the distributors and how the cards get into to Canada. That can vary by card manufacture, so hopefully the prices hold and don't jump like that. Especially with how easy it is for us to order from the US.

Skipping the 3XXX series

What! I think the 4000 series prices are going to be even more through the roof then the 3000 series. Would be nice if the competition actually made a difference but it hasn't, they both are charging 1K a card!

Skipping the 3XXX series

Now I've got the 3090 I'm definitely skipping the 4xxx and the 5xxx series for sure. At 1440p I can see this card lasting me for 4+ years. Can't see any games in next few years coming out that will make this card sweat and I'm talking about games I play not things like Cyberpunk. RT is nice but it's not essential and the few times I've enabled it it's been great but not wow earth shattering.

Just my 2C's worth.
