WMP12 horrible image quality- Win 7-64

Just installed Win7 Home Premium 64 on a new drive. WMP and all other video players including vlc have poor image quality.

I installed the latest klite codec pack (tried both 32 and 64 bit) and tried configuring some settings all to no avail..The decoders are not showing in my system tray either. So I'm assuming the codecs are not being initialized somehow.

I uninstalled all the media players and the codecs as well and reinstalled klite mega pack..Still the same :/

I'm running an ATI HD6970 with the latest drivers. I Do not have ccc installed.

Any suggestions would help greatly as I have been searching for 2 hours how to resolve this...nothing seems to be working.

Remove all your codecs and just use ffmpeg off sourceforge, its the least problematic of them all, and it's unlikely you'll need anything else.

Who uses WMP

Media Player Classic is where it's at.

Alternatively, you can use VLC, it has its own built in codecs so it doesn't rely on the system installed ones.

MPC also has built in. I just use MPC on all comps and everything works perfectly

And yeah uninstall all codecs.. I havent installed codecs for years now...

i agree. MPCHC uses built in LAV audio and video codecs that take care of majority of the stuff out there. LAV codecs used to be a separate thing until they decided to incorporate it with MPCHC a while ago.

I exclusively used K-lite codec pack with MPC for the past few years... always was rock solid. Never like VLC, hate that it needs another player to play stuff...

I have tried those methods and even with wmpc the image quality is still the same.

Is there something with my video card that is not initializing which should? hardware rendering possibly?
