Win8.1 + HD4850?

Where can I find a driver that will run HD4850 under win8.1? Am having trouble with several drivers provided by AMD website.

Thanks.

Thanks for the quick reply, much appreciated.

The driver installs but CCC wont open.

Yes the particular problem I'm having is scaling over HDMI. There's no way to adjust overscan because I cannot open CCC, leaving a black border around the screen and a blurry non-native image.

Roger. I had a similar issue with my card when I first installed Windows 8. Ended up having to download an earlier driver (one of the first released) and mess around with the reg settings to manually force the caling.

CCC simply would not work.

I assume you are using this on a media box? That's what I was doing. Took forever to figure it out and IIRC it wouldn't work right for everything, but did work well enough for media.

I searched and couldn't find the stuff I originally utilized, but I know there are workarounds because I've used them before :D

-edit-

I had either a 4870 or 4890 I think. Can't remember since it was a few years ago :(

I've come across a couple modded drivers but still cant get CCC to open.

Geez AMD drivers suck balls. There's always something. Yeh, yeh, I know it's legacy but who's the genius at AMD that thought it would be a good idea to remove all functionality from a working driver?? The driver itself installs and works, but you cant change a single option. Brilliant. :hmm:

Thanks anyway Sazar.

I'm going to assume it's a NET Framework issue...which is what it was nearly 90% of the time on any occasion where I couldn't get CCC to open.

In my second rig has a 4870, but run at the windows 7 and no problems here. You probably need to install all the windows updates and including the some NET framework updates before install the driver. That's what I did. I wish I'd help you if I have the Windows 8.1, but I don't know...

I've read that other users have gotten HD 2000-4000 working in Windows 8.1 by first installing the 13.1 or 13.4 driver for Windows 8.0, and then updating to the 13.9 legacy driver by installing it through the device manager

However, the fact that AMD drops support for older cards faster than Nvidia does IS stupid and infuriating indeed:bleh: I'm not going to defend them there at all.

Indeed. AMD's legacy drivers don't even have release notes.
Nvidia's DX10 cards have official Windows 8.1 drivers. Even their Geforce 6 and 7 series have Windows 8.0 drivers.

For anyone having a similar issue I managed to resolve it by editing the registry -

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Video

click on 0000 or 0001 etc, scroll to the resolution key like 1920x1080x60 (may look something like DAR F81920x1080x60), and change all entries to 00. This removed all over/under scanning.
