why can't I use the rage3d driver!!!???

I recently purchased and installed the ATI Radeon 8500 64MB DDR 3D Gamer AGP-DVI card and i tried to use the rage3d driver for windows XP. When i try to install, it says that the display driver is not compatable for the display adapter.... How come i can't use the driver... i thought it is for the radeon 8500... any help would be apprechiated. Thanks

I don't know what you are referring to by the "rage 3d driver" but the latest drivers for your card can be found at http://www.ati.com/support/drivers/powered.html and if you are running XP then this is the latest driver here http://download.ati.com/drivers/partnerproducts/wxp-ref-7-70-020418m-003892c.exe

Make sure you uninstall any drivers you have tried to unsuccessfully install before you try these (Control Panel/Add Remove Programs/ATI Display Driver/Remove).

That doesnt sound authentic ATI built.
sounds like a 3rd party card (ATI doesnt call their Radeon 8500 "3d gamer")

go try the reference drivers at ATI's site.
