Why are Apple's chips faster than Qualcomm's?

They customize it to their software and devices while Qualcomm designs them for a variety of devices with different specs. Qualcomm still has features that apple has yet to feature.

I've only skimmed through the first couple of minutes of the video, and it doesn't seem very good.

The software optimisation part is really not that important to why Apple's processors are so much faster. The fundamental architecture is different. Apple's SoC design is focused on fewer, much higher performance cores (they have been closing this gap), whereas Qualcomm decides to throw more, smaller cores into its SoCs.

Apple's new chips are faster than most of Intel's last generation i-series processors in single threaded tasks. The Snapdragons are nowhere near close, but they generally have a couple more cores to use.
