I enjoyed the first one.

Two summers ago I read the Horus Heresy series. Highly recommended.

I wish they came out with a third version of the top down RTS instead :(

do you mean fourth? im guessing you mean dawn of war? as there were actually a few different 40k rts games, but that one stands out the most. If so, there already s a dawn of war 3.

Yeah, I am losing count. Always enjoyed those.

Im mixed bag here myself. I loved the first two games, and mostly enjoyed the 3rd, but i think dow2 and more importantly the chaos expansion spoiled me. I didnt like the change to that type of format at first, but i grew to love it, and was sorely disappointed in the hybrid vision they went with in 3.

Ironically, i think two of the expansions from the dawn of war series are my favoruite rts games of all time. Dark Crusade from 1, and Chaos Rising from 2. I'd sorely love to see those two expansions turned into a full fledged game.

DOW 3 was probably the biggest disappointment I ever experienced for a game release. I was SOOO hyped when I heard it was being developed as I was a huge fan of the first two games and I put many hours into both.

Then when DOW 3 was released and I got to play it, I absolutely HATED the pacing of the campaign and the gameplay immediately felt watered down. Each campaign mission went from Human, to Elf, to Ork, and rinse and repeat about 20 times.

Even worse, each side played wildly different with completely different tactics required to be successful, so you'd finally start to get the hang of playing one side, then BAM the next mission would jarringly throw you to one of the others and you'd have to adjust again. Then you get used to them, then BAM it's on to the third side, then full circle back to the original...ugh. They should have just stuck to the original format of picking a side, doing their campaign, then moving on to the other sides.

The biggest problem though is that it didn't feel like a warhammer game, where hordes of units collided with each other and mass casualties ensued. It felt more like capture the flag company of heros light, only a poor imitation of it. Sadly, DOW 3 killed the DOW franchise and there has been nothing since.
