VSR at 3200x1800 what's that?

I thought I would try this VSR so I enabled it in the crimson drivers. Firstly it fuc**d up my desktop even though I was still on 1440p. The screen went black and then my icons went all over the desktop. So not a great start.

When I went into a games settings I now had a new resolution of 3200x1800. Must say I've never heard of that one! So I did a few game benchmarks at this resolution and whilst it looked alright I wasn't convinced. Some games had no difference at all with the new resolution and some even had 4k resolutions and when I enabled them it was again hit and miss as to which games worked with it.

Overall not sure what this VSR really offers that is worthwhile. It might be me, settings I don't know about, or maybe at 1440p it's not really worth it.

Any comments?

Don't set 3200x1800 for the desktop, but you can just change to 3200x1800 in any games if you desire. I never would change 3200x1800 on my desktop for non-gaming because the monitor is only at native 2560x1440 for the best looking. Otherwise, it would looks messy. But in the games, I usually use 3200x1800 in some games.

What VSR does is basically render higher resolution, similar to super sampling using order grid. It can be combined with other AA methods as well. Works great for games that have poor AA and if you have the performance to spare (like Mafia II and other non AA option games).

For me, 21:9 aspect ratio VSR is not available. Works on 16:9 monitors and I assume 4:3 and 16:10 as well. Nvidia DSR is similar but Nvidia also adds a blur filter (filter) to the mixed and plus is much more versatile in resolutions you can use.

Leave you desktop at native reso.

use the new resos ingame only.

Cheers Mac. I haven't changed my monitor's native resolution its still running at 1440p. It's when I enabled VSR in the CCC options the display went black and messed up my icons. I disabled it and then re-enabled it and the same thing happened again. It's fine after the initial black screen.

Switched monitor on last night and nothing. No signal detected. Did a bit of digging and it appears my DP cable has 20 pins whereas certified ones should only have 19. Works fine on HDMI so I guess I'll stick with that till I can find a 19 DP cable. :sherlock:
