VLC 32-bit vs. 64-bit

Any comments/opinions on which is better? I've used the 32-bit version until now and then saw the 64-bit version and gave it a try. Seems to be ok other than the fact that when I click the file association button in settings, the program crashes. It is a well-known issue as I did a quick Google search. Other than that, it seems seeking is slower (like using the time-stamp "bar" to jump to different portions of the movie/video) because when I try to go to another portion of the video, it sometimes takes a second or two before the video starts playing again.

Installed/gave Potplayer a try. I like it! Think I'm going to stick with it.

Okay, I don't get any sound from Potplayer when I play something with DTS. Any ideas? Says a codec/decoder is missing.

Uninstalled Potplayer and installed MPC-HC. So far so good. I don't know if I am just imagining things but the picture quality looks damn good (better than VLC) with MPC-HC.

Soo.. Is 32bit or 64bit better?

:bleh:

IMO, try both and see for yourself. With today's processors you should be able to throw anything at the PC. I think 64bit can be unstable at times. There was one app I had a problem with and it ended up being because it was 64bit.

MPC 64bit crashes more often than the 32bit. I say 32bit is better as it's more stable. What's the advantage of a 64bit player?

I don't see a point of 64bit for a video player...never used the 64bit version of MPCHC. 32 bit does the job fine for me.

What is the best install guide for madVR for MPC-HC? Also looking for one for SVP. Can you have madVR and SVP installed and used at the same time?

yup, you'll need to tweak your svp preferences though, right click svp tray icon, video profiles.

Thanks. So it installs SVP and madVR? Both work fine together?

One more thing...

I tried installing the K-Lite Codec Pack but madVR didn't work (I installed the "standard" pack): http://www.codecguide.com/download_kl.htm

Basically, after installation, there is a madVR icon in the installed programs under the K-Lite Codec Pack under Program Files in Windows. If I click on it, it says it cannot open it because unrar.dll is missing from my computer. Secondly, when watching a video in MPC, if I right-click on the screen and go to "Filters", I cannot see madVR. I do see "Enhanced Video Renderer (custom presenter)" there.

Then I researched a bit on Google and found this: http://codecs.forumotion.net/t1835-...resh-install-of-k-lite-mega-codec-pack-11-0-0

After I installed the patch, madVR started to open and show up in MPC but I don't think it was being used because I saw no real difference in the video quality and my CPU usage was the same as before.

Apparently, there has been no updated K-Lite Codec Pack and the current latest one requires the patch mentioned above to get madVR working. Even with the patch, I couldn't get madVR working even though it was launch/showing an icon in the taskbar.

I assume I won't have these problems/issues when installing the SVP main project install? I can't try right now.

Everything should go smoothly with SVP :bleh:

I don't know what the heck I'm doing wrong but I can't get SVP to work either. I installed the SVP main project. Everything installs and stuff but it seems the picture is just vanilla MPC-HC. I think I'll just stick to vanilla/stock MPC-HC. :bleh:
