Upgrade to rx 470 system won't post

Hello, I'm upgrading from an hd6970 to an rx470. I uninstalled the 6970, drivers too, powered off, replaced the cards, plugged the power into the card. When I go to do a first boot, the system never seems to post. Nothing happens, the card doesn't seem to be detected. I know it's in and has power. If I start it up without the extra power, the fan on the card moves. Nothing ever comes on the screen.

My system is running Windows 7-64 bit, 8GB of RAM, bios, etc...are all upgraded.

For now I've just put the old card back in.

It sounds like it could be a bad card. If everything works fine with your old card and the new one just doesn't run it seems like it has something to do with the card.

Do you have another machine that you can test the card on?

Is the fan spinning? If it does. Then maybe it's something is up with your BIOS. Are you using MBR for Win 7? Is your CSM enabled in the bios?

try resetting the TCM as well, my bosses becomes corrupt sometimes and i have to delete the key and make a new one occasionally.

Also, make sure your drives are not set for UEFI. My post will stall if my optical is set for UEFI.

That is assuming you can get into the bios.

Id also check your video cable.

Thanks.

The bios doesn't have very many settings. All I can do is select devices and order. The first device was listed as UEFI, then the hard drive, then the optical drive. I tried it with UEFI and without, they both did the same thing. I never hear the usual "beep" right before the main splash as the computer boots up. If I try booting without any video card I do hear the beep.

I also had tried hooking it to my tv by HDMI, just to see if it was my video cable as well.

None of these helped. I'll try my daughters PC and if that doesn't work I'll just return the card. It's a bummer I was surprising my son with this card.

It's not an error beep, like with some issues. This PC has a single beep when it starts up, that single beep is when everything is ok. On normal start up I get a single beep then the splash screen.

With the new card in it I don't get to the beep.

But did it turned on without posting beep? You still won't able to get in the OS, right? Did you try re-seat the card and then re-plugged the power cables? Have you?

Correct, I never got to the OS. I never got anything on the screen.

I tried reseating (5-6 times), I even tried the second slot, I had to remove the sound card to try it in the second slot, that didn't work either.

If I were you I'd just quickly test it in your daughter's machine if you have access to it. If it doesn't boot in that one either then I'd chalk it up to the card and try to get a replacement.

I had exactly same problem week ago, fault was that card was not all the way in the slot. Check to see that the golden pci-express port pins are all leveled and inside the motherboards slot. Might need adjusting the "metal-holder" thats around the output-ports (holder that you screw into case). Hope this helps :)

Okay. Curiosity, what brand did you bought and where did you ordered from? When you returning your card. Make sure you can try to pick a good one from some good reputable online. I'm not sure if it's just a bad luck that your card wasn't working at all.

It was a sapphire and I got it at Microcenter. I brought it with me to work so I can return it. It's right by my data center where my company keeps its servers.
