TV in the other room...

Just wondering if anyone has a suggestion/solution for this problem.

I have a 1080p (1920x1080) tv in the other room hooked up to my Radeon 4850 via HDMI. I also have a monitor hooked up to the card (1680x1050).

So right now I am running cloned but that means that my tv is only getting 1680x1050 and not the full 1920x1080. But if I run extended I can't see the other screen so I can't really start videos / change volume /etc on that screen from the other room.

So is there any easy way to get true 1080p video to my tv and control it from from the other room?

I think for that circumstance you use extended desktop, with both at their native res, and enable Theater mode in the CCC so that any videos you play get automagically pushed to the TV in full screen hi def glory. I think you have to use a compatible player though, like WMP11 or VMC... not sure.

I had it working like that on my old X800XT in my old HTPC, but that was a long time ago and I had a monitor hooked up and a CRT via S-Video. Haven't tried it using DVI + HDMI on a HD4000.

If simple cloning is desired then of course the 1680x1050 monitor can be replaced with a 1920x1080 one.

Otherwise, CCC profiles can be used to make the TV primary at full resolution and the monitor a secondary clone with scrolling.

Extended is indeed the only way for such fully independent resolutions so then it is mostly a matter of how complete the access must be from the TV. In lieu of some general media interface, a very good player is MPC-HC.

MPC-HC can work with Theater Mode or optionally its own Full Screen Monitor feature. Or, its window can be moved to the TV and left there. Or, if the TV is primary, apps would launch there automatically. Or some other application such as HydraVision can be used to make the TV the default display for only certain apps to start on or, if I recall, can send app windows upon demand (rather than manually dragging).

MPC-HC can change the display resolution when launched full screen although I am not sure how that would affect dual display configurations (probably better to use aforementioned profiles).

An IR receiver can be used for remote control if the cable can be run along side the video cable else I suppose an RF receiver could be used in the PC room. IR has the advantage of a programmable remote being able to control other gear in the TV room (audio system and so on).

One snag with HD disc formats is not being able to mirror video (such as with Theater Mode) such that a player must be run on the display being used for viewing.

I hope that helps.

I ended up doing it by extending the desktop so that both displays were running on their native resolutions. Then I enabled hydrovision display manager which enables "Send to Monitor 1" & "Send to Monitor 2" in the taskbar. So I just start a video and then "Send to Monitor 2" and use the keyshortcut for media player classic (ALT-Enter) to go fullscreen.

Works flawlessly...=)
