I reposted this from the R8500 general section, since I realize this is probably the best place to inquire about this.

I have 3 Unreal engine games I play ALOT, and know that there was a patch released for TruForm for Unreal Tournament, So i was wondering if a patch could be made for these 3 games?

All 3 games, as im aware of, are fairly open-source. The modding tools and editing info comes on each of there respective CD's

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Games in question are:

RUNE-

Deus EX-

Undying-

Would it be at all possible to make a patch for them? And how would the process go? id be eternally grateful to anyone like nitroGL that could get this done, im just not that tech swavy with C++ and other games, Programing and coding wise.

I do 3d modeling, and been working on RUNE alot, importing skins and models. My goal is to make a Perfect William Wallace, General Maximus, and Conan skin+ model for RUNE. Along with specific weapon models for each. Like modding the Roman Sword for maximus, and adding a Claymore for Wallace.

If I could get a patch for atleast RUNE, this would enable me to develop the models knowing TruForms tesselation extents. If TruForm for RUNE lets say would make certain models feet swollen, I could edit the base model, so it would look purposely distorted in un Truformed mode, but Visually correct in TruForm enabled mode.

-Thanks in advance.

I could make them, but I'm pretty sure it would suffer the same problem that UT does...

Someone told me that thoe 3 games unfortunately dont have Full open source code yet. Im not sure myself honestly now.

Anyhow, Nitro, I wouldnt want you to go through the trouble and headaches if the source isnt there. it would be practicaly impossible im guessing. if there was a way to may the TruForm patches, I guess only RUNE would be the one I would really love to have.

I know that Unreal suffered from the swollen foot problem, and random distortions, but what I plan on doing if I can get TruForm to somehow work in Rune, is make the models with standard tesselation in mind. That way, to avoid lets say swollen foot syndrome, I could link a few vertices inside the foot to prevent improper tesslelation distortion, and could also, if need be, Distort the model purposely, so non TruForm would be rather bad, but TruForm with the recommended Tesleation would make the model geometricaly and appearence wise, correct.

Since only Models would most likely be effected, and not the level design or base level structures, Theoreticaly, You could deform all models into a Bad version, with extra interior vertices , so when TruForm is active, they would look correct.

Obviously this approach has some SEVERE side effects. For one, people with non ATI cards arent going to beable to play the TruFormed version, since the models would be mutilated looking. So 2 sets of the desired MOD would be needed. One TruForm, the other base.

Then theres the problem of now making 2 sets of models, and then having my poor friends code it, so at LAN parties, TruForm version could work flawlesly with non TruFormed version. Which in essence, shouldnt be to hard, if you set model names to exact same identity in each version.

So, Im not sure infact if RUNE can be TruForm patched or not now, but if it could be, I could work around the problem Unreal had. Ill try to find out if RUNE is Open, and then possibly we could work something out, if it doesnt take to long to Patch. I wouldnt want anyone taking hours to do this un-neededly, since I intially thought, TruForm patch takes about 3-5 lines of coding. but Im slowly learning, its not that simple.. due to CopyRight, Closed Source codes, and issues where everything gets TruFormed, and not just desired modles.

I also dont know if you know any? But would you have any links or info into the background of TruForm, N-Patches, or how the Card elects a point of tesselation. Im thinking it just sub-divides triangles on the mid point, but thats a guess.

As always, yours, and everyones help is greatly appreciated =) And I LOVE the TruForm patch you did for Quake and Quake 2. I was even thinking of digging out my OLD, OLD editors and making a few models, with tesselation purposes in mind. =)
