The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

I was getting major stuttering, solved it by updating my amd chipset drivers. running at 4k max settings (RT on, DLSS3 On). only in white orchard but im hitting 95+fps. game looks gorgeous!

I upgraded the PS4 version to PS5. That was a dramatic upgrade. The PS4 version was pretty bad before. It looks really good. The ray tracing mode has really nice natural lighting. But it’s not worth a 30 fps hit. Still looks great on performance mode and is really smooth. It’s definitely still glitchy though. Already saw Vesimer jump onto an invisible horse and ride it straight into the ground. I reloaded the last save and he got it right the next time. The game itself is still great. Unfortunately, none of my original saves made it to the new version. So I had to start at the beginning.

I installed the chipset drivers. Definitely made it playable. However, I can still see some hitching especially when riding the horse. For some reason MSI AB doesn’t show me the fps. I know it is high fps though. But when game is trying to load a new area, it definitely hitches. It is annoying and can happen during fights.

They definitely improved fighting as well as I am killing idiots much faster now.

Depending on your TV, try turning on Motion Smoothing and see if it's playable. Might work just fine for this game type.

Anyone see the haze or slightly blurry film in mid to far distance in daytime clear weather?
It's in unmodded 1.32 & Next Gen if anyone notices it or cares. I prefer to have it gone or most of it gone because the blurriness bothers me. To others it looks more natural and that's ok. There are extended view distance mods designed to remove the haze/film. I have depth of field and blur both off.

Mine has that even on PS5. Overall it still looks way better than the original PS4 version. Is this what you mean:

@ SD-[Inc],

Yessireebob that image displays the culprit on my PC and this is the extended view mod on Nexus Mods that makes all that noticeably clearer and sharper for me -

Edit: So if you have it on PC too it helps. I really hope it's one of the mods they now allow on PS5. If not then maybe bribe them to include it. The mod is over 5 years old but don't let that bother you, it hasn't borked my game on pc in any way.

And to PC players I can't be the only one for whom this mod works so maybe try it if you have the haze or the slightly foggy film at mid to far distance that makes even buildings look less sharp. If you don't notice it then it must just be me for which I'll get replies that say I have a file conflict, or that I have Depth of Field on (it's off), or something else like that.

Some prefer the haze/film because it looks more natural to them, and sometimes I think that too. But most of the time I like it lifted off in daytime clear weather. And with mods you can switch back and forth. In some overcast, stormy and really foggy conditions it's fine.

It probably is a performance enhancement to keep the solid 60 FPS. Seems like the same code for PC version is a little dumb. Distance fog should be a setting on PC.

After all my bloated previous post I'm finding that TAAU or DLSS Quality removes much of the fog or film. So may not need an extended view distance mod in Next Gen. But may still need it in 1.32.

TAAU looks better but the FPS hit is 25% compared to DLSS Quality. So no RT/DLSSQ gets 110 FPS where RT/DLSSQ gets 50 FPS where RT/TAAU gets about 35 FPS. Basically I can play at the same framerates as I could when the game first came out on my i7 920/HD 7970. But now I guess it is 1440p and there's different lighting.

Played for a couple of hours. Did the quest where the dwarf smith shop burnt down. Made a decision. Damn probably the wrong decision. Love this game.

That’s not the first branching moment in the game. They start right from the moment you save the vendor from the Griffin. Witcher games are amazing. I’ll never forget the time I was bored and replayed Witcher 1. I was totally shocked that the game took me a totally different direction after a few different decisions. Witcher 2 made it too obvious the big choice. Witcher 3 returned to closer to Witcher 1 where numerous decisions can make
major branching storylines. It will make your replay enjoyable because you’ll have those “I don’t remember this before” moments a lot. Just make the opposite decision your gut tells you and you’ll probably see a bunch of new gameplay.

Worth noting, TAAU doesn't do any scaling unless you also flick on dynamic resolution scaling as well.

The game in unplayable maxed out? How are you guys able to play this? Hitching is happening randomly. It works fine and then hitches like crazy. Shelved.
It's either the new drivers causing this or games. Not sure what at this point.

Not having any consistent issues here. 4 hours in. Getting about 50 FPS. Are you trying to run at 4K as well?

*I passionately kiss 1440p*

There was one time when I loaded a save a few times in a row and it became a slide show. Exiting to the menu and re-loading fixed it.

People on here talking about fixing hitching with chipset updates in AMD platforms? What about Intel?

I have shelved this until that’s fixed.

On other sites it's said that today's patch seems to give better frame pacing although not necessarily higher fps. Edit: So I think they explained that as meaning a little more smoother motion or less jittery movement and maybe or maybe not a wee bit bump in fps. I guess it seems like that for me in gameplay after the patch. But I was relieved all my dozen or so mods still work.
