The Radeon RX 480 has appeared on Steam Hardware Survey

It hasnt been 20% long. The accumulated install base of radeons cant be ignored by devs. Not to mention consoles. If it was 20% for several years then it might be an issue but so far AMD is selling out of 400's and the new apis has actually caused a spurt in sales of the previous 300 gen as well as more people realize they were a better value than assumed previously.

Im not worried and the lineup that is coming is impressive. Vega is rumored to have a 4000 SP basic model and a monstrous 6000+ SP top end enthusiast gpu. That latter could easily put the kibosh on the latest titan x.

The question becomes when?

I hope some teasers will be presented when Zen is released. Better yet limited quantities to go with Zen - Maybe a combo deal where initially the only way to get a Vega is to buy it with a Zen processor :manches:

AMD needs to think outside the box on promotions. Hey Vega is ready in small quantities - hmmmm - limited launch with a given combo - Contest winners - Zen/Vega combo. . . build some hype especially if both are uber performers. Make clear when regular supplies will be available and that the initial launch is for limited availability to go along with other AMD items for promotions, feedback etc. Now the key is not pricing it exorbitantly but at the same price projected on availability, just combined with other AMD items (Zen, Vega, AMD ram/SSD, AM4 motherboard) or complete systems. Make Nvidia look like greedy bastards while AMD sells the limited supplies at MSRP right from the start.

Combine stats with APU's, developers would be losing rather large by ignoring AMD. Besides AMD spear headed API advancements and are probably a good source for developers for both consoles and PC's.

Looking at AMD gaming devices overall for the big screen or monitors - Consoles + APU's + Discrete = AMD actually has a rather big chunk of real estate there.

I would like to see actual sales numbers for the latest GPUs from both brands to see how things are looking. I know I know, miners, etc. Still, I have a lot of buddies with 480s who are just gamers. Perhaps that is a small insignificant sample, but surely things can't be as dire as certain people would like to think...

No one should be worried about AMD optimizations. They have sealed the deal with consoles for years to come, which will mean continuous GCN usage and frustrated 290/X owners looking for an excuse to upgrade forever! ... I actually wish that was a joke. Vulkan and DX12, keeping 290/X alive for 3~ more years?
