I just switched from a SB Live to the GameTheaterXP & I LOVE it.

It works great in both Win98SE & now W2K with the newest drivers.

My Live! Platinum 5.1 Experience

My Live! Platinum 5.1 Experience

I justed upgraded from a Live! value to Live! Platinum 5.1
After using the 5.1 I found out that there is no actual much use of the LiveDrive & the Remote unless you got extra money you can spare.

But the Card is far better than it's value brother; So I recommend you upgrade to any of the 5.1 family.

The Digital Dolby chip makes games & DVDs much more enjoyable than the value one, believe me, I couldn't believe it myself until I heard it running.
I only did that upgrade so that I can connect a 5.1 Speakers, but I couldn't believe my ears when I heard the difference between the Value & the Platinum on my current 4.1 (Now I must buy a 5.1 to complete the rig).

If you still gonna buy the Platinum instead of the MP3+ 5.1 or the X-Gamer 5.1, note that the Drive is useful only if you gonna compse music, and running the Remote control Software consumes memory and slows your PC, besides it responds very slowly to clicks (unless you adjust it to be more sensetive & in this case it WILL Slow your PC), I had to remove it's integration at the end (and I got a 256MB RAM).

Plus you pay for lots of useless software & Games that are out dated (unless you didn't play DeusEx, MDK2, or Theif2).

There is also one good thing from buying from Creative, they are the Standered for Sound Cards and they provide Terrific Premium Support for their products.

I hope you get lucky in your choice, I tried as much as I can to explain my experience with the Card.

Good Luck,
Death Adder

PS : If ATi Fixes it's FOG & Drivers Dilemma, tell me and I'll buy the RadeonII (Damn it the Radeon WAS a good effort, but the drivers sucked-big-time I finally sold my Card, but I am still waiting for ATi to blow Graphzilla (nVidia) out of the 3D picture, Yeahhh that would be KOOL).

Actually, one reason I dumped my SB Live was their total lack of driver support lately.

Either the santa cruz or the acoustic edge,DONT buy any live card unless you want problems. As for me the Aureal sq-2500 is still as good as it gets.:p

You can do either one with the GameTheaterXP.
