Test Drive Unlimited 3 incoming

Oh sweet. I loved being able to drive around in an open world in TDU2. Racing around on two decently rendered islands. Hope this game does more of the same and isn't just another run of the mill need for speed type racer.

I was in a bit of a bad place when I played TDU2, it really helped put my mind at ease at the time. I don't think another TDU could replicate those sensations, but I'm curious nonetheless. Forza and The Crew certainly got their inspiration from Test Drive Unlimited, so I wouldn't be surprised if TDU tries to get some of that market share back. I'd rather they go a slightly more original route though.

Love a new one. It was allot of fun just exploring, racing and buying houses and stuff.

 could you imagine if it supported VR headsets

You played horizon wrong. Horizon 3 had sim settings and they were excellent. Every bit as great as tdu 1. Never played 2, even though i have it in my play list. Just never got around to it.
TDU 1 though, hot damn that was a great game.

... never played TDU 2?

You really missed out on a great (albeit temporary) experience. There is no comparison to TDU 1. It's like saying your cat is basically a tiger, just quieter and easier to feed.

Is there anyway to play Test Drive Unlimited 1 or 2? They don't appear on Steam.

Not going to have an easy time getting TDU 2 to work. I have it on Steam and for years, servers were down, preventing even singleplayer play. TDU 1 - sure just buy a retail box from eBay. :) Otherwise, add to the tally here: https://www.gog.com/wishlist/games/test_drive_unlimited_1

You should be able to solve the servers no longer being up by just blocking "UpLauncher.exe" in your firewall from talking to the net at all. Forcing the game into Off-Line mode. I remember using that fix ages ago when I still had a copy of the game laying around :(

Hmm nice. Maybe i'll give that a try after i finish playing wreckfest.

EDIT: Looks like there is actually a patch for the game that fixes the issue. There is an install guide in the steam discussions.

Didn't like the way horizon felt, was way too consoley and arcadey compared to tdu2. There wasn't nearly as much freedom to roam either.

EDIT: Grammar.

Can someone explain what it's like to play these games?

All I really know are racing sims like Asetto Corsa/PCars and psuedo sims like Forza. I've always passed on these games because it just seems a little pointless wandering around aimlessly with nothing to do. I recently helped my brother build his first pc, and this sounds like something that could be fun to play together.

yay, another one!

Test Drive Unlim 1 is very much forza horizon 3 (have not played 4), but with all the sim turned on by default and unable to turn off.

So i guess its sim lite. I dont remember it having a story really though, its mostly just driving. I would doubt that test drive unlim 3 wont be a forza horizen clone though. fh3 and 4 are pretty big and popular.

TD2 on Amiga ftw!
Test Drive 2........from Accolade.
Come on the gfx on that splash screen were incredible.

Okay I might try this one when it comes out

Form the little I've played....Forza Horizon 4 is almost the same. Difference is TDU 2's feels more... like your building a car collection. Your entering races, finding new races as you explore a given island, building up cash, unlocking cars, finding a dealership to buy such cars, buying properties to store those cars, customizing everything and if I remember right you could even browse your various garages to then pick your car to go drive..... it was allot of fun :D

Oh and the maps where fairly accurate recreations of real locations. So driving around felt like a real place... because they where based on real places. Driving around Oahu was awesome :)
