System Shock stuff. (System Shock Remake, Kickstarter/Demo Up!)

I never played system shock 1 but based on SS2 looks nothing like i was expecting, looks darker, the robot and the monkey (at lest it looked like a monkey guy on the video) are totally different, perhaps is to early to judge but i can't say that video made me excited, i'm also afraid they will cut some stuff off, just because of the complexity that modern game development entails, but there's still room for hope.

Admittedly I never played the first one, so I might be interested in this. I think I tried it back in the day at a friend's house but it was too tough to get into so I never got very far with it.

SS2 was incredible though, played through that one a few times.
System Shock 1 is superior to the sequel in most respects, but SS2 is a damn fine game too.

Ugg...its being made for Xbox1.

Go ahead and wait for the consolized version; I'm sure it will be as good as the original  , in a "New Coke" kind of way.

So many great games to play this year. Well, looks like my social life will go from 0 to -100. :bleh:

Polygon has an article about the upcoming kickstarter, this part was pretty nice:

We've gotten glimpses of the reboot through early alpha footage and screenshots. When the crowdfunding campaign starts at 12 p.m. PT next Tuesday, June 28, nostalgic backers and the genuinely curious alike will have a chance to actually play System Shock themselves. A short demo of the Windows PC version will be made available to anyone through Steam, GOG and Humble the same day that the Kickstarter opens.

System Shock 2 was the only game that ever really scared me (Vampire: Bloodlines mansion gets an honorable mention). All the other games that are supposed to be scary, like Dead Space, or VR games like Brookhaven Experiment feel "intense" at best. I never actually have been scared. System Shock 2 had amazing atmosphere and it was scary as hell.

So, anyway, I'd like to play the original, but at this point I'm thinking it makes sense to hold out for the full remaster. The enhanced version looks like it took the graphics from Doom level to say UT99 level (maybe UT2k3?), but if the remaster will be fully modern level it's probably best to just wait.

I think your forgetting how flat and shaderless UT99 is. This seems more Doom3-esc to me. Which always felt like it would have been a great engine for a System Shock mod.

Well, it's hard to tell from a few screen shots. You're right it could be Doom 3 level. That's putting it at more like 2004, similar to UT2k3 (although D3 had more advanced shadowing). I think the HD version looks decent enough, but I have enough games right now that I'll still probably wait for the full remaster.
