Great deal on a Denon:

Denon AVRS730H 7.2 Channel AV Receiver with Built-in HEOS wireless technology. $362.57

And the Sony:

Sony STRDN1080 7.2 Channel Dolby Atmos Wi-Fi Network AV Audio Component Receiver, Black $498.00

Both in the same ballpark for features for a 7.2.

Sony said to have better sound but never heard it while the Denon Ive heard a bit tonight but sounded flat. My Yamaha RX-V383BL 5.1-Channel 4K Ultra HD AV Receiver with Bluetooth sounds better imo but lacks those dolby atmos dts-x features.

Dunno what Im gonna do...

Gonna use them with 5.1 Monoprice 565 I have that are amazing adding these to make 7.1:

I've owned many receivers over the years. I've tried to listen to Denon in the past but never heard what others hear with those receivers. I never found them to be great but I never personally owned one (just played with them in showrooms).

With that said, I've been using a Sony receiver for years and it still keeps ticking. Between the two, Sony would get my vote.

I'd suggest just getting another Yamaha (at least the RX-V583) but they look to be ridiculously priced up there in Canada vs down here in the states.

Ya I love the sound the Yamaha I have puts out and its a basic model. But the atmos 7.2 583 is like 750$...

Oddly enough many rate the Sony better now when for years they werent on the radar. I put the Sony on the wish list. I doubt Ill ever get more than a 7.2 setup.

wheres the denon at pax? I have an old denon avr-2808 thats getting long in the tooth but i love there build quality

Its still on sale at amazon last years model.

I found a Denon 7.2 2018 model (forget the model code) at a local store to have pretty flat sound on Paradigm speakers. It might have been the room it was running in tho so not sure... Denon felt heavy and solid but many brands have good build now. I know they do have a good reputation.
