RX 460

I really wanted a 480, but they are sold out everywhere. I own Doom and I was really getting frustrated that my 650Ti could intermittently play it, so while at best buy I said oh heck why not! Picked up a 460 4GB. I have to say the card is VERY impressive for a $150 budget card. Doom runs at 1080p with all settings high with an avg of 70fps which is fine for me!

May plan is to use this until probably black Friday and pick up a RX480 8gb and give my son the 460. Overall, the games I play work great. I am pretty happy with the budget purchase :D

I picked up an RX 460 this weekend and was impressed with the performance too. Unfortunately I was one of the unlucky ones who got the black screen issue and no driver set was able to resolve it. Pretty annoying so I ended up returning it :(

That sucks, the fixed could be from this video description

'Finally resolved using the Wattman feature. Turned setting to adaptive and automatic and that cured the crashing issues.'

I really wanted to buy this card because serious budget constrains but the few problems, first is instead of 1024SP it only have 896SP thus it's not at it's full potential and I wanted the 4GB version but the 4GB version costs so much that if I spend a bit more I can get 4GB RX 470

I had experienced the black screen and crash, but I downgraded from the beta driver and using the WHQL and so far It doesn't seem to be happening. This was the first time I heard of this and now I am worried :(

EDIT: I don't get the pricing on the 470. Local store has it for $219 but you can order the RX480 for $199. both 4GB. To me the 470 is just not a "Deal".

The issue is that the 4GB RX480s have limited availability. So, the RX470s are being increased in price to the RX480 range, and all of the custom RX 480s are +$50 or so.

It's almost like the 4 GB 480s are a "loss leader" so AMD could say they delivered that performance level for $200. That being said, supposedly the RX470s are only about 5% slower (I think than reference 480s, a bit more vs customs).

Thanks Nagorak. I went ahead and swapped out the 460 with the 470 4G. I had the black screen issue again and it made me nervous.

EDIT: Haven't tested gaming on it (booted into work image :( ), but this thing has some ports! 3 Dispay ports, 1 HDMI, and DVI that supports dualink. It's also huge! Has two fans.

You have black screen too? Then RX 460 is off my buy list. Congrats on RX 470 purchase. Do post how well it games

I had black screen when I installed 16.7.3 during playing Overwatch. It just blanked once. But I had to clean the old driver and then went with 16.8.2. No more black screen.

Thanks! So far this thing kick's buttocks! Getting really good 120+ frame rates in Doom and other games are running pretty darn smooth. Now, I am not much of a gamer as I used to be, so I don't have really any newer games to go by except Doom. Also, my 27 is 1080p monitor, so no 4k gaming results here.

Overall happy with purchase. :)

It could be an early driver issue, since it's a new card. Thanks for testing :)

It's OK I do a lot of Doom even though I already finished it. Currently I play Doom on my HD 4600 at 1280x720 low detail with 50% resolution scaling (which is around 640x360) getting 40-60fps

120fps? Dang that's faster than my 290X. AMD really did well with RX series

I think i'll jump onto a RX460 soon. Seems these new generation titles I cant run on my HD 5870 because features.
My PC is fairly old hat now so a 470/480 might not be worth the extra money for it (CPU bottleneck) Plus currently don't play beyond 1080p so I wont have any resolution problems as that is 'low res' relatively speaking :p

Now is it worth getting the 4GB one or just saving as much coin as possible with a 2GB?

What are the games do you mainly play? If you don't play much games. I'd just get a RX 460 since you only have a 1080p. But if you want to play some new games. Get a RX 470 4GB.

I agree with Trek as I am like you and I am happy that I stepped up to the 470. Gives some longevity to your platform; especially if you do upgrade your CPU/MB.
