RT-patches

could anyone show me a demo, or even create one

does the Radeon support RT-patches in soft or hardware?

Radeon 8500 supports only NPatches/TruForm in hardware. RT Patches are not supported in HW and D3D says you aren't supposed to software emulate features so it's not in SW either. Due to the extremely low number of titles actually supporting RT Patches (I don't actually know of one outside the MS SDK samples) you aren't likely to see an OpenGL extension implementation either.

Than why is RtPatches in the D3D driver then? Just curious:) When I enable it, RtPatches & Quintic Beizer & B-spline Patches are shown up as supported according to 3DMark2001 system info. Doesn't it mean it runs atleast in software?

It was probably just put in there to scare Nvidia... :D

Of course ATI could be lying, and there chip is really an FPGA, and when the time is right, they'll simply release new drivers, that aren't drivers, but in fact is a new program for the FPGA...

it's not in software either?
then how does the DX SDK run it? ;)

I found a Open GL demo somewhere, better implement that extention :p

just kidding, oh well

btw: how come we (R100 owners) can emulate N-Patches without much of a performancehit but with RT-patches (DX SDK) it will crawl at 2-3 fps even with that simple model?

and oh yeah while we're at it:
will enableChaplinEmulator ever work
doesn't seem to do anything right now...

Although you may be able to toggle some RT Patch stuff in the driver, it's not SUPPORTED as I said. The 8500 does not natively support RT Patches.

Why is it slow when you run the SDK?? uhmm self explanatory from above but also the fact that it's not as simple as N Patches. This is also part of the reason you're having such trouble finding titles and demos to show what the feature does *8-)

EnableChaplinEmulator does not have the effect you would think on the Radeon. It will not make your Radeon think it's a Radeon 8500 or any other chip. A Radeon is a Radeon unfortunately, you'll have to spend the extra $$$ to get Radeon 8500 features in your systems. I'm sure you're local dealer will be more than happy to sell the board to you.
