Radeon x1900 locks up on full screen help!

I have a Radeon x1900 series graphics card with a ver 8.12 catalyst center directx 9.0c, recently, whenever i attempt to play my games in full screen (i.e Warcraft III) my screen becomes garbled, filled with static then locks up and freezes my computer, sometimes when i restart after this my resolution is reduced to the lowest setting. Any ideas on how to fix this? I have tried reformatting my computer, and reinstalling my drivers but no luck.
