Thought some of you might be interested. So I'll post the start of my project here.

Basically, I am turbocharging my 1993 VW Corrado VR6. Should be capable of 400whp+ easy.

So far I just have a growing pile of parts.

Camshaft failure. Good thing I bought new cams. All the lobes have wear like that one, some less, some more.

Should be done in under a couple months. I'll post more progress pics here as I go along.

Needs 24 valves!

:p

Also needs a MAP and a full aftermarket ECU/ECM...

Oh and you know the lightweight lifters are nothing but OBDII lifters, so I hope you didn't pay more for em... :sherlock:

naw. 12 valves sound better. :p

I have the ECU part covered. Swapping everything over to OBD2 and going with a C2 42# tune.

Lifters were only $100 for all 12 iirc.

Wow, that is going to be a pretty quick little car once you get everything setup. I'd love to know what type of0-60 and 1/4 times you will get with that setup.

Good luck! Looks like a fun project.

I had a buddy that slapped a turbo on his VR6 Jetta and is running 530whp. Not a whole lot is done to it, but the pretty much stock motor is running like a champ. Been over 5yrs easy and he really puts it through the ringer!

Nice! yeah they are pretty stout motors. :)

Corrado's used to be my favorite car when I was a teenager .

I drove an '82 VW Scirocco 8V and dreamed of owning a Corrado VR6/SLC someday.

Searched for 2-3 years, trying to find one in reasonable condition. After test-driving about a dozen of them and taking 3 of them to my mechanic, I gave up.
All of them were abused and falling apart. If it wasn't cosmetic, the mechanic found some expensive mechanical repairs that needed attention.

Hope you don't mind, but here is a Top Gear review that I must've watched a hundred times back in the day.. -- for those Ragers that don't know a thing about the Corrado

Speed activated spoiler, VR6 sound, recaro seats.. this was the Supra of VW's line. VW has played it safe and really hasn't made a unique, sporty car since the Corrado [IMO]

I love that video.

Yes, it can be hard to find one without any mechanical problems. Though with a car that can be 22 years old those kind of things are expected. Mine has been extremely reliable though and never broke down or left me stranded. I bought it with about 70k on it, as an automatic, swapped it to a manual and just drove it everywhere and has about 140k on it now.

Coolsville.

Kudos on swapping the transmission. I would have thought it would be easier to find another car. But you're going well beyond that now. ;)

Looks like the leather needs conditioner.

sheesh. You sure 42lb injectors are gonna be enough for that airhorn?
My subie had 800cc (83lbs?) injectors! It was around 330whp with 103 octane.

The oil looks fine. It looks like there was a bit of corrosion on the cams though, perhaps it was sitting for a couple years before being fired back up.

The oil now isnt the question.
Did you get new cam bearings, cause the wear dosn't look good on the lobes.

There are no bearings on the lobes...

When you replace this sort of stuff you always replace bearings along with it. I'm sure he has bearings for the new cams. Looking at the stuff he has lined up it's safe t osay he has a pretty good idea of what he's doing here.

Probably get another 500-1000 rpm redline with that headwork.
