Please Help!!! Jk2

sometimes when i load the game it gets in on default settings. but if i turn them up to my optimum, the thing either gives me an illegal operation, or a blue screen. what settings should i have on so that it might not do this?!
 
oh and get this, i tried a different set of drivers (6037) and now when i try to load a new game, EVEN IN SAFE MODE, before it gets done it either just shuts down and reboots or says "jk2jo.exe has performed an illegal operation"

i can't figure out what is wrong, i ran a scandisk wehn the comp booted up and it said some files the the lucas arts directory were corrupt, so i reinstalled the game, tried again, and it still doesn't work.

now, on the verge of bursting into tears, i reset my bios settings, and put my clock speed at default, and i put the vid card at default 275/275. tried the game, doesn't work. but sometimes, if i select my difficulty as padawan, i at least get to the star wars intro part, but then it crashes after that. im going to try the other difficulties and check to see if theres a problem with that.

do you think i should replace my cd if that is the case?
 
ok heres the lowdown.... i got those new XP drivers, i install, try the game, and while in the loading screen it says: jk2.exe has performed an illegal operation and must be shut down. so, now very pissed off as one would get, i just try playing multiplayer for the hell of it. well guess what, it works! and i was playing the game for a good amount of time, learning how to use the lightsaber and stuff like that. so i said to myself, 'well maybe now that multiplayer works, the singleplayer might work too!' so i go into singleplayer and try to load it and this time it just reboots in the middle of loading. once again my hopes are shattered. i cannot figure out what is wrong? what do you think i hsould do?
