You heard it right. My 103S DVD player will not play audio cds in win2k. Any ideas. It worked in win98, but not in win2k.

The audio cable is correctly attached. And the drive has power and everything. It reads data cd's just fine, but it just won't play audio cd's. Whenever I stick one in and it tries to play it, the thing just constantly spins up and down. Makes the player really really hot. I'm thinking it's a win2k thing myself. I tried reformating, but the same problems arose. Any ideas would be helpful.

oh btw. The main reason this is a pain is that I can't rip cd's using it because it can't ever cddb the cd.

Any thoughts would be much appreciated

I'm no W2k expert, but the spin Up/Down seems to suggest that the drive is being accessed in digital audio extraction mode unsuccesfully (as opposed to being told to play the CD in analog mode), or that 'the system' isn't even able to identify the CD as being an audio CD, and retrying endlessly (to determine the disk type).

If this drive has a flashable firmware you may need to upgrade the firmware for proper w2k usage, or you have unsuccessfully flashed it lately. Consult the manufacturer's web site for support info, including any special driver that may be required for this drive to work under W2k.

Digital Audio extraction is and has been disabled in the control panel.

I'm using the most recent 1.16 firmware for the drive.

Thanks though.

Weird ! I have a 103S and I am pretty sure I have played an Audio CD in Win2k - I will have to reinstall Win2k at some point and try it out for you.
