following a power failure, and on being restored, all I get is philips on the display and unable to change audio source on the player or remote. it get power, but that's all. had left it unplugged to reset over night, but no effect. the tv is an lg lcd. any ideas? thx

Receivers are typically very sensitive to power fluctuations. Do you have it on a decent surge protector?

yeah, it was plugged in to a protector. could be an electron or 2 got thru it anyway. it happened not too long ago and started working again, but I guess not this time. it is several yrs old, so mayhap time for a new one. not really sure I wanna go digging around inside. might end up frying something else. plus it didn't cost much, around a 100 at the time. thx anyway

I've been in the same boat from a similar situation. I ended up:

1. Got a much better surge protector (from Monster)
2. Got a new receiver

If you would like to investigate further, post what model it is and I can check where the fuses are and guide you right to it. Could be something as simple as a blown fuse if it never turns on at all. Disconnecting everything from it, unplugging it from the wall, and waiting on hour limits the risk to pretty much nothing.

You could try disconnecting EVERYTHING from the receiver as well, having only the power cord connected and try powering it on. If you do get power, something connected or a speaker/speaker wire is shorting out the unit. Plug each thing back in one at a time until it doesn't turn on any more, and that last one is the culprit. Simple and worth a shot.

there is power to it as the display and power button are lit. there's just no response to any other button pressed, including the remote. gonna have to see if I can find the manual, when I get in from work. I do have a monster, but for some reason there was no power at all.might be cuz the plug has no ground:hmm:

Oops, sorry about that. You did mention it in the first post.

Not all Monster surge protectors are created equally. If you paid less than $100 for it, then you don't really have all the protection you need for your HTS.

FOUND the manual. it a hts3051bv/f7/f8. troubleshooting tips were no help. power button still scrolls Philips across display

Unless you are financially unable to replace it (not everyone has available spending money), I think you may be spending way too much time trying to figure it out.

yeah, it wasn't expensive when I got it. been thinking on something new, so $'s not a problem. to even get audio to run from the player to the tv I had to get a coax/optical converter

wellp, got a new setup. it's a samsung j4500 https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=2ahUKEwiQpKvw_N7eAhUnhOAKHUFNAjQQFjAAegQICBAB&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.samsung.com%2Fus%2Ftelevisions-home-theater%2Fhome-theater%2Fhome-theater-systems%2Fht-j4500-home-theater-system-ht-j4500-za%2F&usg=AOvVaw1M52HCENc_bvELz6o-2RC- . seems to work fine so far. more than I wanted to pay. only other, cheaper, setup was a rca but it didn't do bluray. not sure I like it, tho. with the phillips I could run its audio thru an opti/coax converter. this new one can't do that, so I'm stuck with crap tv allegedly surround speakers
