OpenAL in jk ii

Yes, the difference is immediate and huge on my audigy and 5.1 speaker setup (it's the only way i can get the game to output 3dsound, to my center voice channel as well as the other four). It sounded like it was 2-channel stereo before, now it sounds like it should.

Edit: No detectable performance hit. I would highly recommend this to owners of 3d hardware sound. Oh, and look for this thread to get moved...

Actually, from what I understand, the tweak is for advancedHD(audigy) only...check out the post on this topic in the PC gaming forum.

This should be discussed in the PC gaming forum.
As for more info, check out 3dsoundsurge.com as I believe they had a bit on it...

i'm never sure if my system is doing 3d sound..this is my setup
Sound Blaster Live Value!

I have it hooked up to my receiver via the digital out... it is a full 5.1 setup. Will 3d sound work well with this or should i just select stereo within games and let my receiver decode into Pro Logic. Should i think about upgrading my sound card, or is it fine because I'm outputting via S/PDIF to a receiver? Also...will games ever be encoded in Dolby Digital?

The Live value can only do four-channel EAX, as far as I know. You should be taking the front channel analog out on the back of your card to some sort of amp for your 2 front speakers, and ditto for the rear for 3d gaming (hopefully, you have either two amps, a reciever with four separate RCA inputs, or a set of four-channel computer speakers that can take the output). I think you can pass thru digital via the SPDIF for DVD movies, as long as you have a digital decoder that can decode the signal for you. You can't (as far as I know) split EAX up from the SPDIF out via a digital reciever and get 3d sound for games, but reverb effects and such can of course be heard with a 2-channel setup... Live also won't do advanced HD (audigy only), but 4-channel EAX is worth the effort.

Well I tried it with my GTXP and the difference was immediatly noticable. The audio was much more imersive. Very nice.. And not real performance hit for me either...
