Is it better to get the subscription-based Office 365 or the one-time purchase Office 2019?

Depends on whether you want the latest version that is continually updated with security patches and feature enhancements, or a one-time purchase that will just get security patches.

I don't even use most of the feature enhancements, couldn't tell you what many of them are to be honest.

A vote for non-subscription here.

Yeah, especially if you can get the non-sub version for cheap.

Also I think the sub version comes with 1Tb of OneDrive space if that matters to anyone. And you can share the sub with up to 5 other people. I think the non-sub version is only installable on a single PC but I could be wrong.

You can buy 2019 keys for like 30 bucks. I went that route for my wife's computer. I'm still rocking my old MSDN copy of 2016 on my machine. They took our MSDN licenses away though, so I'll probably upgrade to 2019 next time I rebuild my PC.

Yeah it's single PC now. I use the 365 sub, but that's with a massive discount through work - $10 for 3 PCs, otherwise I would go one time purchase and run it for 15 years :bleh:

Care to share a link for that, please? PM me. The problem is the most sites offer at super low priced could be possibly a shady place to buy. I just need to find a right legit site to get at that price.

I bought a Microsoft key on a gray market site once. It worked initially, but eventually the code was black-listed and I had to pay full price for "legit" key. Since then I avoid the gray market. Many people don't have a problem, but YMMV.

I did the same once, with the same outcome.

For me, LibreOffice works just fine. I considered paying for an office program, but I would be using it so rarely that it wasn't worth the price. And LibreOffice is pretty decent.

I'm still using office 2007 :bleh:

I think the subscription price for office is too high, and the new versions of office are not that cheap either. I would go for an outright purchase though, if given the choice. My vote is to look for some older versions.

One time purchase. Have them both through work but it's just more convenient not having to login if you download the desktop clients on 365.
