nVidia 3070 thread

I wasn't directly replying to him. Wouldnt get so worked up was aimed more at anyone hopping on the 3070 choo-choo train. The $500 price tag isn't very good; this range of cards used to be $379 only two gens ago.. it's a 20% price increase this gen if you skip Turing which had horrible value across the board. Unfortunately the terrible pricing of Turing across all products has really changed everyone's mindset. I truly don't see the value in the 3070.

I really hate using this forum on mobile lol

I do agree on all that.

Not to mention with AMD's reveal so close now, anyone interested in the 3070 tier of video card products should be waiting to see what they have first anyways.

For those with 2080ti's you will be happy to see your frame times are better:

The Founder Edition Gtx 1070 had a Msrp of $449, and an example of Nvidia moving up Asp's as far back as Pascal. So, a $499 Msrp Rtx 3070 isn't too bad in the context of past Turing pricing, specifically with the Rtx 2080 Ti's price point.

Some of the reviews are comparing the Rtx 3070 Fe , which isn't an Oc edition to the Rtx 2080ti Fe , which is over clocked and other factory oc sku's.

Expected around Rtx 2080 Ti reference performance and close enough but disappointed a bit with Rtx feature performance and expected a bit more separation. Good to see 8 gigs doesn't hamper 4k.

Ideally like to see the price reduced to around $399 or less like past x70 derivatives and may happen with strong competition from Amd.

For me the most exciting part is that you can build a 1200 bucks rig right now with a 3070 with performance of a 2080 Ti. That is insane value and will make PC gaming thrive especially given how hampered the new consoles are in their specs.

No more 2K rigs for good PC gaming experience.

I'm not sure what you're trying to recommend here. Unless you weren't replying to me?

Why would you not upgrade the monitor if buying a vastly more powerful GPU? 60Hz has been a good enough experience for me with a 980 Ti, but since I'm planning to get one of these new GPUs (at some point) I'm thinking its time to up the refresh rate.

I'm all about balancing performance where I can. I'm not a fan of having a display with res or refresh rate that my GPU can't fully utilize, which is why I stayed with 60Hz at 1440p. But now since I'll have the power to get frames close to 144 in modern games with a 3080 (or AMD equivalent) I'm looking to upgrade my monitor.

As Nunz says, Acroig, you need a new monitor as a 3080 would be awesome on a newer G-Sync/Freesync monitor. Only reason I'm still thinking of buying a 3080 is it supports freesync now. Don't listen to KAC he's an Nvidiot and I'm wondering if he's really bought those Ampere cards as he's not the most reliable informant on this forum. What does Donald call it 'fake news'. Remember his posts on the 2080ti he bought numerous times but never actually owned?

You pays your money you makes your choice so don't regret it, life's too short and one things for sure you can't take your money with you once your dead. I'm also waiting for tomorrow's AMD announcement so let's see what tomorrow brings.

I don't know if I can stretch the budget for a new monitor at this time. Let's see how the cards perform and are priced tomorrow.

You own a 2080ti right? Time is on your side and as Nunz says spend the money now on a new monitor and when things settle down next year and maybe we have a price war buy a new card then. You won't regret it.

If I stick with nV then I don't need a new monitor....

144 Hz really is a lot better than 60 Hz. I tolerated 60 Hz for a decade once LCDs replaced CRTs, but it was nice to return to >100fps goodness.

Regarding the 3070, obviously it sets a new standard for FPS/$. It's a little disappointing that the "second gen RT cores" don't seem to provide any significant performance improvement over the 2080 Ti though.

But with AMD now launching new cards it seems like anyone considering it should definitely wait another week to see reviews, since the relative value of the 3070 tends to come down to what AMD is offering at the same price point.
