No more cats...

Six months after the younger one passed, we had to put his older brother down today. He was losing weight, started having trouble breathing, and was refusing food. The vet said that he could feel a mass on his liver during a quick exam and it was almost certainly cancer. We had a nasty growth on his neck removed last year, but the vet couldn't get all of it so it came back again and I guess it spread. The cat was nearly 15 years old with a heart murmur and other issues, so rational treatment options were limited anyway.

No more cats in the house now...it's going to feel really quiet here for a while.

Sorry for your losses. I remember when my 17 year old cat died, it helped to still have another cat in the house. I don't think I could have dealt with packing up things like a litter box.

Our neighbourhood has actually had a sudden influx of cats. There's about 4 that show up every once in a while. There's a nice long-haired one that's been looking in our window, that I sort of hope ends up deciding that he lives here.

That's one of the chief joys of sitting outside here when it's warmer. There's always outdoor and stray cats wandering around, and there's usually at least one that will come by "Hey random stranger I've never seen before, I'm going to sit on your lap now."

losing a pet is always hard because they are family members no matter what. It always breaks your heart when you have to let 'em go because they do love unconditional.

When we had to put down our cat she was 20 years old, we had her for almost 15 years, a rescue, she was hands down the best cat i've ever met. She would always stay at your side whenever you were sick. We were crying our eyes out, but that's also part of your responsibility. To make sure they don't have to endure pain.

Tht being said, i'm sure you'll eventually get another cat sooner or later. Once you're used to them around you it's hard to have none.

I'm sorry for your loss but i'm also sure they had a wonderful life at your place.
