New Toyota Supra

They could go back to what the Japanese car makers did well in the past, which was focus on lightweight rather than all out power.

I doubt it will be a GTR competitor (in performance or price). I think it would fail if it tried to be so I'm just expecting something with decent power, but lightweight which will be around the price of the C7 Corvette (non-Z06/GrandSport). That would be a competitive place for it to be...

This is what I suspect as well, only without the notoriously tough 2JZ motor of the older Supra. Maybe it's another super tough motor. That would certainly set it apart a little from the Vette.

However, I agree more with your first statement. The market really needs more fun, lightweight sports cars that are affordable with not much power. They are fun as hell to toss around and actually drive.

Yeah, there are too many insanely fast cars out now. Fast cars that can still turn with no problems, too. Ridiculously fast cars for not much money considering the performance.

I like the Supra and its history, but this Toyota/BMW thing is just too late to the game. what could it possibly being to the table over its competition at this point?

I hadn't thought if it before, but you're right. Having a fast car isn't really a unique thing anymore. Sure, you can make cars even faster if you spend a ton of money building and modding, but your average car enthusiast can barely deal with a car that can go 0-60 in 4.5 seconds...

Kind of invokes the same feeling I had about the styling of the original Supra. I don't like it, I don't hate it... I nothing it.

I like the side profile and the rear. The nose is a little weird .. sort of has that Mercedes feel where it seems almost pointy.

It just looks like the mashed up the Lexus RC and the LFA into a smaller car and bulged out the middle of the bumper more. I hope the new Z4 looks a lot better than this thing...

Well it's certainly a FAR cry from the FT1, which is a major shame.

It looks like the designers did a "jack of all styles, master of none" with this car. It visually has no sole or character IMO.

Kia Stinger looks better.

I think that the side profile is all right, but the front and back ends are terribly ugly.

This thing only has 335hp, that's pretty disappointing. 15hp more than the previous Supra, same HP as a V6 Camaro, and nearly 50HP less than the Z4 that shares the same chassis and engine...

Yeah, but chassis and suspension have become a lot better with time. Theoretically this thing should handle way better.

What I've seen so far, I'm not overly impressed. I'm not saying it's terrible, but just not something to make me consider getting rid of my F-Type for... However, I'm reserving full judgement for when I can see one in person. Sometimes, cars can give a better impression in person than in photos (or vice versa).

The Supra, and LC are the same platform. I approve of this thing.

Supra and the new BMW Z4 share a platform (This thing is a BMW underneath)

LC is Toyota's own separate in-house platform, nothing to do with BMW.

Im having a hard time with the proportions. It looks squashed and off in some angles. The FT1 was long and had a long wheelbase with the wheels pushed to the corners. The proportions look right and it looked marvelous.
The Supra is shorter and the wheelbase is shorter. The design is similar and modified from the FT1, but it doesn't look like it was made to fit that shorter length and wheelbase, so it looks a little weird to me.

Plus no manual....
