New sound system for living room

I'm using a Sony BDV-N9100W 5.1 Home Theater as my main sound system in my living room, so far it has worked perfectly and gives great sound for movies and TV shows.

Since, I'm in the process of changing the living room layout (new furniture) I need to replace the system with a simpler more elegant setup, having big speakers is not an option anymore.

I've been looking into some advanced soundbars, and have narrowed my options to these 2:

Sony HT-ST9 7.1 sound bar
Bose CineMate 120 Home theater (it's also a sound bar)

Both systems have wireless subwoofers. I can get locally both systems, the Sony costs ~$900 and the Bose ~$1450.

Which one would you choose?, I don't want an ultra high HI-FI system, it will be mainly used to watch bluray movies and directv, and some gaming as well.

Opinions? :)

My opinion,
You will not be disappointed!
Last year I went from a very powerful 7.1 system to a soundbar with sub. Love it.
Sure it don't have the same umph but Higher Quality bar systems trick your ears pretty well.
I had a pioneer 7.1 component system with decent speakers. Problem was my Wife, lol.
She likes moving furniture.
In the end Im very happy.
I have the samsung hw f550. Mid to low range I know but Im a believer now.

lol, my wife was the one that changed the furniture and asked me to get rid of my home teather, it's less that 2 years old..., but well, I will be getting a new 4K TV so it's a nice trade off:lol:

I got a sound bar for my room a couple weeks ago, it's a mid range Sony and love it, I used to have a basic Samsung w/o sub and this is like day and night in comparison.

I'm so glad that my wife doesn't mind the big speakers I have because there isn't much of anything I could have bought at the time (or since) that can match what they can do...we have smallish 5.1 speakers in the den and the big Infinity Beta speakers (Beta 50 mains, C360 center, and ES250s for surrounds...can't forget the SVS PB-2000 sub! ) for the great room which is pretty big.

I would consider a soundbar for the den at some point perhaps

I used to have a TV room, that was before my kids were born :bleh: .

Now, I have invaded the living room :D

I ended up getting the Sony HT-ST9 Soundbar, should receive it in a couple of days, have to wait until the new TV furniture is installed to test it though...

hah, my wife didn't understand why I wanted 5.1

Then we got it, and now when a show doesn't have 5.1 she's disappointed.

This soundbar is 7.1, let's see how the "surround" works. I used to have my current HT in a "front speaker" setup, Sony has a special mode for this.

I don't think I will be dissapointed, I have a 2.1 soundbar for the main bedroom and the virtual surround sound is awesome.

No BOSE! There's always money better spent elsewhere. Do they need to be powered (better speakers if you have an AVR already to power them)?

Have you considered:
* Definitive Technology W Studio Micro
* Sonos Playbar + separate sub (doesn't have to be same maker if it crosses over in the right place) - this bar is powered
* others

For a subwoofer if the bar doesn't come with one you can pair it with an SVS SB-1000 for $500 more.

I would love to play Frankestein with different brand speakers and combinations, however, they are awfully expensive here, a lot more than what I paid for the Sony soundbar.

I may do it in the future, when I have the dedicated space for it, right now I don't have it

Still have not installed it, I'm waiting for the new furniture to arrive, maybe in 10 days..., it's custom made so it's taking time :)

In the meanwhile, the huge box is taking space in my bedroom...

Finally installed it on saturday, tested it yesterday with Deadpool in Bluray and DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1, sounds great! :D

Installed my Surface as a "mobile" HTPC, set up all the cables to easily connect it whenever I want to:

Retro gaming! :D

oh, that, it's custom made, I designed it and hired an engineer to build it.

All the cabling runs inside the unit and have triple power outlets + cable hidden inside each compartment. I was thinking on installing a led strip behind the outside panel but like how it looks like now.

It fits 55" and 65" TVs. I currently have installed the following components inside:

WiiU + controller charger
PS4 + Controller charger
Surface Pro 3
DIRECTV DVR
Cisco router

My main goal was to conceal as much as I could. I think it's fine.
