New driver problems...

Dudes, got a problem with running any of the new drivers ie.., anything above the 6018's (R200). I'm getting less than average scores on PCPitstop and 3DMark se and, in fact, can't complete 3DMark with "newer" drivers. I've done all of the usual fixes...updated to latese 4in1's, flashed BIOS, turned off all TARs, disabled VSync, AGP apeture set to 64 (system wont run stable at 128),set Open GL and Direct 3D to performance settings. Any help appreciated...Also, very limited features in BIOS...no IRQ ar video shadowing options that I can find...Uninstalling old drivers correctly (I think) by deleting all references to ATI from the registry...oddly, when system reboots, the card is still recognized as standard ATI VGA...

AMD T'bird 1100
Radeon 8500 64mb Retail

I'd personally try a format and reinstall.

Ahhh actually i just noticed that u have a RAID card these have been known to produce conflicts with certain hardware. My mate tryed one and he had problems with his Geforce 2 GTS as a result.

when u format and reinstall remove the raid card as a test and see if all works well after that. If all is well without the raid card i suggest the bin for raid.

Personally u don't really get the advantage unless your running one of the really high raid levels but striping + mirroring but u do need 8 HDD's tho.

Anyway enough of that give it a try, its just a thought i wonder if anyone will back me up on this one

Also, if you have a via chipset (I assume so since you installed the 4in1's) try removing the ram from all but one bank. Mobo's based on via have had agp trouble when running with all dimm slots filled. Even moreso when each piece of ram is different (512, 256, 128).

Finally, try AGP 2x. 4x doesn't provide much improvement, and a number of users have not been able to get it working properly. Common problem on via forums.

Thanks for replying. Probably showing my ignorance here but I was not aware that my Promise controller card was the same thing as a raid card...it came w/ my system and is required by my mobo to run at ATA100...pulling the card will render me w/ ATA66. Il try pulling some RAM and see if things improve...unfortunately. my big DIMM is not registered...when I bought it I was unenlightened and thought that all RAM was the same.

I think you may have found your problem. I have never mixed registered and unregistered ram, but it doesn't sound like a match made in heaven to me. I recommend you try to work with just your "big stick" ;)

aye always work with ya big stick (well i always do) :P

Follow up...I pulled all but my "big stick" did a thorough reg clean/driver remove...reinstalled the 6094's and THEY WORK !!!. I actually picked up around 300 3DMarks...still having trouble w/ the Pitstop video performance but I can live w/ that. Thanks for the response...
